Frequently Asked Questions

What are some things I should look out for when purchasing organic goods?

Look for USDA-certified organic labels. This guarantees that the product meets certain USDA standards. Look out for the USDA Organic seal on boxes, cartons cans and jars.

When buying meat, make sure it is from organically fed cows. Cattle are ruminants. They eat the whole animal. Ruminant cattle have four stomach compartments: rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum. If the cow is to be labeled "100% organic", all of its parts must have been organically fed.

Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Omnivore chickens can eat both plants as well as animals. The digestive tract of an omnivorous chicken is composed of a crop and proventriculus, gizzard as well as small intestine, large intestinale, and anus.

When buying dairy products, ensure they come from cows fed 100% organically grown feed. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach compartment--the cow's udder--is where milk is produced.

If you are buying other types of livestock, make sure to check the label to determine the percentage of their diet. One example is pork that may be labeled '95% Organic'. This means that 95 percent came from organic sources.

What are the top organic vegetables?

Organic vegetables are the best and most nutritious food source. They are the best food on earth.

Organic produce is grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and GMO seeds. These chemicals can pose serious risks to our environment and health.

Organic produce contains more nutrients, vitamins and minerals. They are healthier as we absorb nutrients more easily when we eat organics.

Not only do organic vegetables taste delicious, but they are also safe to eat. Organic produce is safe to eat.

Any grocery store can sell organic fruits and vegetables. You can find organic fruits and vegetables at all grocery stores as long as they conform to USDA guidelines.

What is the difference in organic and non-organic foods?

Organic food is made without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Organic farming practices contribute to soil health, water purity, and animal welfare.

Inorganic food is grown with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Radiated foods are those that have been exposed to radiation. Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are created using biological engineering techniques.

The term "natural", often used interchangeably to mean "organic," is frequently used. But, "natural" does not necessarily refer to organic. Products labelled "natural", however, may contain synthetic chemicals.

Organic produce is typically more nutritious than conventional produce because the soil contains fewer harmful chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers do not use pesticides, artificial fertilizers, hormones, anti-biotics, and other harmful chemicals.

How To

What You Should Know About Organic Foods

Organic foods are plants and animals grown without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or additives. They can't be genetically modified or exposed to ionizing radiation. The food must contain no artificial ingredients, colourings, flavour enhancers, or preservatives. It cannot contain genetically modified organisms.

When Justus von Liebig, a chemical chemist, coined "organic", which means "life-giving," to describe the properties in manure, the term "organic" was used for the first time. Today, organic is synonymous with food production. Organic simply means the product is made from only naturally occurring substances such proteins, carbohydrate, and minerals.

Over the past decade, organic products have seen a dramatic increase in consumption. Recent statistics show that around half of the world's population consumes at most one organic product per day. This percentage continues to rise and is projected to increase by 70%, 80%, or 90% by 2020.

There are many reasons that organic products are chosen by consumers. Organic produce can be preferred for its taste; others prefer them for being healthier. Some people believe organic farming to be more environmentally friendly. Some consumers choose non-organic products because of ethical concerns about farm workers' and animal treatment.

Organic food tends to be more expensive that conventional foods, but prices can vary depending upon the country or region. Organic food prices are affected by many factors. One factor is the availability land suitable for organic agricultural. Another factor is the price of inputs as well as labour for organic farming. Other factors include transportation costs, marketing costs, and taxes. For example, in Europe, the average price of organic food is 10% higher than the regular price.

These are the main differences in organic and conventional food.

  • Organic produce is free from synthetic fertilizers, growth regulators, hormones, and antibiotics.
  • Organic livestock is fed a diet based on grasses and grains rather than corn and soybean meals.
  • Organic milk is only produced from cows that are fed all-natural hay and pasture grasses.
