Today, organic food is the fastest growing industry. But even though we've come a long way from our roots, there is still much room for growth.

Organic products are the future. They are safer, better for our environment, and more affordable for consumers.

However, they are also more expensive. We created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to know which foods are popular today and whether trends are changing.

These results indicate that organic food is growing in popularity. Between 2011-2012, nearly half of Americans shopped for organic foods.

According to the USDA, organic production increased by 10% last year alone. 9% now comes from organic foods in the United States.

Organic food is certainly on the rise but consumers are still not able to afford it. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.

Despite this, organic food is growing at a faster rate than any other food segment. You'll notice that organic food consumption has increased steadily since 2009.

According to OTA the volume of organic products sold at supermarkets grew by 14% in 2010 and 2011.

This increase reflects consumer demand for healthier foods, which explains why organic food sales are increasing across all age groups.

However, younger generations are leading the charge when choosing organic food. Millennials have twice the likelihood of buying organic food as baby boomers. The 25% of organic food purchase made by younger adults below 35 are made up of young adults.


Is organic food healthy?

There are two types. One is those that we grow ourselves, and the other is those that we buy from someone else. Of course, there are exceptions to both categories, but for the most part, the answer to your question is yes. Organic food is healthier because it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, preservatives, or genetically modified organisms (GMO).

In supermarkets all over North America, Europe Asia, Latin America, Latin America, and Africa, you can find organic food. Many grocery stores now stock organic food. This makes it easier to shop organic.

Organic food has higher levels vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which makes it more delicious and nutritious. Organics are grown without using pesticides and fertilizers. They also don't pollute soil or water.

The USDA regulates organic farming practices. It requires that farmers follow strict guidelines in order to ensure organic produce is safe for consumption. There are over 30 million acres of US organic farmland.

As an added benefit, organic food is often much cheaper than conventional food. Organic food is often cheaper than conventional food because it contains the same amount calories, protein, as well as nutrients. Organic farms are free to charge less for their crops, as they don't need to pay expensive chemical inputs such insecticides orfungicides.

As much as possible, purchase organic fruits or vegetables

Look for USDA organic labels on meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and honey.

Avoid processed foods labeled as "natural" or "no additives."

Check ingredient lists carefully. If an ingredient isn’t listed, it might be added during processing.

Fresh meats are better than canned or frozen. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.


What are the benefits of organic fruits?

Organic food does not contain pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. They are also richer in nutrients like vitamins C, E, K, and omega-3 fat acids. These nutritious ingredients make organic foods better for our bodies, and for the planet.

Organic foods are grown using sustainable farming practices that preserve soil quality and encourage biological diversity. They are free of harmful chemicals and sewage sludge.

While most consumers associate organics with produce, many organic products include dairy, meat, poultry, eggs, baked goods, personal care items, pet food, and household cleaning supplies.

The USDA defines organic as crops that are grown according to federal standards. Non-organic methods cannot be used by farmers to grow these foods. They may however use approved natural pest management methods like crop rotation or cover cropping as well as organic feeds.

Further, the farmer must be careful about the amount of pesticide and fertilizer he uses in the growing season. Farmers cannot use genetically modified organisms (GMOs), artificial growth hormones, synthetic insecticides, or synthetic fertilizers.

All the above requirements are met by vegetables and fruits that are labeled "100% Organic". But some farms do not label their products as 100% organic because it would confuse consumers. Instead, they will say that their product is "made with organic components". "

In this post I'll share some tips and techniques for buying organic meat that won't break the bank.

You will learn where to buy cheap organic meats, and what they cost per pound. You will learn how to make the best out of what you purchase.

It doesn't take a lot to eat healthy. Sometimes it takes creativity to save money and eat well. Here are some ways you can cut down on food expenses while still getting the best from organic meat.

  1. Buy bulk food at wholesale clubs. Sams Club and Costco both offer great options for buying bulk foods like pork chops and chicken breasts. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. This way you won't end up with any leftover meat. If you buy it in bulk you can freeze it so it lasts more.
  2. Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry weekly deals, including free shipping for orders above $35 There are discounts on roasts, ground beef and lamb steaks as well as pork loins. You can browse their website and view what's on sale at different times.
  3. Find a local farmer - Local farmers usually charge less than big box retailers because they do not pay considerable fees to stock their shelves. They also know what their animals ate and drink so they can tell exactly what is inside.
  4. Look out for cuts that are the leanest. It's generally less expensive to cook lean meat than fatty. Therefore, choose the leanest cuts. The most popular are sirloin or flank steak, tenderloin roasts, top round steak, and top roast steak. These cuts have high protein and low fat.
