The Environmental Working Group (EWG), offers these tips to help you choose "cleaner" foods:

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) must set strict guidelines for organic foods. According to the National Organic Program Standards all organic food must be free of banned materials such as antibiotics growth hormones genetically modified organisms GMOs, and industrial solvents. Additionally, organic food must be raised without toxic chemicals, petroleum-based fertilizers, sewage sludges, or ionizing radiation.

What are some of the benefits of organic agriculture?

Organic farming gives farmers the opportunity to grow food without the use of chemical pesticides. Farmers do not need to worry about harmful pesticides harming their crops or animals.

Organic farming also permits for the use of natural fertilizers. These fertilizers are good for plants that are healthy and reduce chemical waste.

Organic farming can also be environmentally friendly. Many farmers use composting methods to replenish soil nutrients. This reduces pollution and conserves valuable resources.

As well as helping the environment, organic farming increases crop yields. Because organic farming uses less water during the growing season, this is why it is so successful.

Organic production methods result in farmers receiving higher prices. Consumers who are more aware about the dangers associated with pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and other chemicals will choose healthier foods.

This leads to a greater demand for organic food products. Organic farming is gaining popularity because of these reasons.

What is organic meat?

Organic meat refers to real food grown without the use artificial fertilizers, pesticides, or hormones. Organic meat is also a guarantee that the animals weren’t fed any genetically altered feed. This makes it safe for human consumption because there aren't any harmful chemicals in the meat.

The best way to ensure that you eat healthy organic meats is to buy them locally whenever possible. Local purchasing helps keep money local, not out of the state. Local businesses often pass on savings to customers shopping locally. Local businesses are more likely to keep jobs here than export them abroad.

There are two types of foods; those we grow ourselves and those we buy from someone else. There are exceptions, but the majority of the time, both options will be available. Organic food is healthier since it doesn't include any harmful chemicals.

Organic food is often less expensive than conventional food. Organic food is often cheaper than conventional food because it contains the same amount calories, protein, as well as nutrients. Organic farms are free to charge less for their crops, as they don't need to pay expensive chemical inputs such insecticides orfungicides.

How To

How to save money on organic meat

This post will share some tips and tricks to help you buy organic meat without breaking the bank.

You will learn where to buy cheap organic meats, and what they cost per pound. You'll learn how to get the best from what you buy.

It doesn't take a lot to eat healthy. Sometimes creativity is required to make money while still eating healthy. Here are my top tips for keeping food costs down and still enjoying the many benefits of organic meat.

  1. Shop at wholesale clubs - Sams Club or Costco are great places to buy bulk foods such as chicken breasts and pork chops. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. This ensures that meat is not wasted. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
  2. You can shop online for meat at great prices. For example, Amazon has a weekly deal called Prime Pantry, which includes free shipping on orders over $35. They offer discounts on beef roasts, ground beef, lamb steaks, and pork loins. You can browse their website and view what's on sale at different times.
  3. Find a local farmer - Local farmers usually charge less than big box retailers because they do not pay considerable fees to stock their shelves. Plus, they know exactly what their animals ate and drank, so they know exactly what's inside their bodies.
  4. Choose lean cuts of meat - It is usually cheaper to cook lean meat than fatty. Look for the tiniest cuts. These include sirloin, tenderloin, top round, flank, and top-round steaks. These cuts are high in protein and low in fat.
  5. You don't have to be afraid to try new recipes. It's possible to reduce grocery expenses by cooking new recipes using ingredients you've never tried before. You'll be surprised at how many delicious dishes can you create using fresh tomatoes.
  6. Use leftovers to create new recipes. For quick lunches, leftover meat can be used to make dinners.

So there you go! This is my list of tips to help you afford organic meat, even if your budget is tight. Are you able to offer any additional tips? What other tips do you have for me?
