Frequently Asked Questions

Is organic a guarantee that the product is pesticide-free

Organic food is naturally chemical-free and grows without pesticides. This means that organic food is often free of pesticides and fertilizers.

Organic produce contains more nutrients and is healthier than conventionally manufactured foods, as it does not contain any harmful additives.

The USDA National Organic Program, (NOP), requires farmers to adhere to strict guidelines when cultivating organic crops.

These guidelines include soil preparation, crop rotation, pest control, water conservation, and harvesting practices.

Organic farming methods also benefit wildlife and natural environments.

What's the difference between organic foods and inorganic food?

Organic food is grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, sewage effluent, radiation, or genetic modification. Organic farming practices are good for soil health, water quality, animal welfare, and the environment.

Inorganic foods can be grown using pesticides, chemical fertilizers and sewage sludge. Irradiated foods are treated with radiation; genetically modified organisms (GMO) are created through biological engineering techniques.

"Natural" is sometimes used interchangeably in the context of "organic." However, natural does not necessarily mean organic. Products labelled "natural", however, may contain synthetic chemicals.

Because organic produce contains fewer harmful chemicals, pesticides, and fertilizers than conventional produce it is more nutritious. Organic farmers also don't use synthetic fertilizers or hormones, pesticides, or antibiotics.

Why should I buy organic?

There have been many health problems linked to conventional farming, including allergies, asthma, diabetes, obesity, cancer, birth defects and hormone imbalances. You must make healthy choices when buying food.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), offers these tips to help you choose "cleaner" foods:

As much as possible, purchase organic fruits or vegetables

USDA organic labels are required for meat, poultry, eggs and milk.

Avoid processed foods that claim to be "natural" and "no additives."

Check ingredient lists carefully. If an ingredient isn't listed, it may be added during processing.

Frozen and canned meats should be preferred to fresh. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.

Which are the best organic vegetables?

Organic vegetables are the best and most nutritious food source. They are the healthiest of all foods.

Organic produce is free from pesticides and herbicides. These chemicals pose severe dangers to our health as well as the environment.

Organic produce also contains higher levels of nutrients, vitamins. minerals, antioxidants. phytonutrients. enzymes. fibre. Essential fatty acids. This makes them healthier because we absorb these nutrients better when eating organics.

Organic vegetables taste great and are safe to eat. There are no known side effects associated with consuming organic produce.

Organic fruits and vegetables can be found at all grocery stores. As long as they are produced according to USDA guidelines (which means they meet the standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture), they are labelled "organic." If you cannot find organic produce at your local grocery store, check out online retailers such as Amazon or Walmart.

Are organic foods better for us?

According to the Environmental Working Group's latest report on pesticide residues in foods, organic fruits and vegetables had nearly half the level of pesticides compared with non-organic versions. They found that organic apples contained eight times fewer pesticides than non-organic apples, while organic strawberries were four times cleaner than their conventional counterparts.

Another study suggests that organic food can reduce exposure to toxic metals such as lead and mercury. One study found that organic meats had 33 percent less lead in children than the levels of those who did not eat them. Another study concluded that pregnant women should avoid consuming conventional fish due to high levels of mercury.

Organic food is generally safer than non-organic. Experts recommend eating fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible to reduce the chance of developing cancer.

What is an inorganic food?

Organic food is made without pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Inorganic foods contain these chemicals, which may cause health problems.

Organic food is grown naturally without harmful substances such as chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. These chemicals can cause harm to animals and humans.

Inorganic food can include meat, fish eggs, buttermilk cheese, buttermilk, yogurt, honey grains, vegetables, fruits spices, and herbs.

Organic refers the way an agricultural product grows. Organic farming, for example, uses natural methods and soil amendments in order to grow crops. Conventional farming, however, uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

Foods labeled as organic must meet strict guidelines by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). According to the National Organic Program Standards, all certified organic food must be free from prohibited materials such as antibiotics, growth hormones, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and industrial solvents. Organic food must also be free from toxic chemicals, petroleum based fertilizers, sewage effluents and ionizing radiation.

  • Brands participating in this challenge are committed to using 100 percent sustainable cotton by 2025.[5] (en.wikipedia.org)
  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
  • Popular clothing brands, like Patagonia, are labelled as organic by using 100 percent organic cotton for many of their styles. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • When packaged products indicate they are “made with organic [specific ingredient or food group],” they contain at least 70% organically produced ingredients. (usda.gov)

How To

What happens to your body when you switch to organic products?

Organic products do not contain synthetic fertilizers or hormones. They come from clean water sources, and are raised on free-range animals. They are organic because they don't contain any additives or chemicals. This product was produced by nature and therefore contains no harmful substances.

The term "natural", refers only to how food was grown. It's used to describe foods that have not been altered into their final form (e.g. fruits). Natural foods are often fresher because they're not subject to heat radiation, chemical preservatives or any other treatment. Some people think natural does not necessarily mean healthy. Experts aren't sure if there is much to be different between organic and traditional foods. Both types have been tested for quality and safety. Organic produce has less pesticide residues and pollutant than conventionally grown food.

In general, most grocery stores now offer organic options. If you are looking for organic meat, poultry and eggs, check with your local grocery store. Some companies sell only organic products; others have separate sections for them. You should look for USDA Certified Organic, Non GMO Project Verified (Biodynamic Association Certified), Rainforest Alliance Certified, and other certifications.

These foods should be avoided by women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Pesticides have been shown to harm infants and unborn babies.
