Organic food must be grown without the use of toxic chemicals or petroleum-based fertilizers.
What's the difference between organic foods and inorganic food?

What are some things I should look out for when purchasing organic goods?
USDA-certified organic labels are desirable. This certifies that the product has met certain standards set by USDA. On all packages, boxes and cartons, look for the USDA Organic seal.
When you shop for meat, ensure that it comes from cows who are fed organic feed. Cattle are ruminants, which means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle are divided into four stomach compartments, the rumen and reticulum as well as the omasum and abmasum. To be labeled '100% organic, all animal parts must be organically nourished.
You should only purchase chicken that has been raised organically. It must not have ever been treated with antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Omnivorous chickens possess a digestive tract made up of a crop.
It is important to ensure that dairy products are from cows that were fed 100% organic feed. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach compartment is the udder.
You should always check the label before purchasing any other livestock. This will let you know what percentage of the diet was given to the animals. A label for pork might say "95% organic", which means that 95% of the feed used by the pork came from organic sources.

How To
5 Reasons You Should Buy Organic Products
Organic foods are organically grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. They are free from genetically modified organisms and irradiated substances. They are not made with sewage sludge, industrial solvents, or any other chemical substances. During its growing cycle, the food's natural environment will be protected from contamination. It is free of artificial preservatives and additives. It does not contain hormones or antibiotics. They are also grown in conditions that ensure they retain their nutritional value for longer periods of time.
- Health benefits. Nonorganic produce has more chemicals than organic. Organic produce is healthier. It's therefore less likely that it will cause allergies and other sensitivities. You also consume fewer toxic substances and carcinogens.
- Eco-friendliness. Produce grown without synthetic fertilizer and pesticides requires very little water. Organic farms are located far from cities where there is a lot of pollution, because they require so much energy to grow. This helps to reduce the amount of air pollution.
- Sustainability. Organic farming relies on soil fertility, rather than chemical fertilisers. This results in healthier soils and higher levels organic matter. Farmers should rotate crops and let the land go bare periodically to improve soil health. Strong immune systems develop when farm animals are fed only grasses grown without antibiotics or added hormones.
- Taste. The taste of conventional fruits and veggies is often bland. This is because they are picked at the peak of ripeness. They then get shipped long distances to their destination. Because it was picked while still unripe, organic produce is richer and more flavorful.
- Nutrition. GMOs, BPA, and other harmful chemicals are often found in conventional processed foods. These harmful substances can be avoided by sticking to whole foods like meat, eggs, fish and nuts as well as seeds, beans, fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
