What's the difference between organic foods and inorganic food?
Organic food is made without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Organic farming practices promote soil health, water quality and animal welfare.
Inorganic foods may be grown with chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or sewage sludge. Radiated foods can be treated with radiation. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created by biological engineering techniques.
The term "natural" is often used interchangeably with "organic." But natural does not necessarily imply organic. You may also find products that are labeled as "natural", which could contain synthetic ingredients.
Organic produce is usually more nutritious that conventional produce. This is because organic soil contains fewer toxic chemicals and pesticides. In addition, organic farmers do not use artificial fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides.
Which organic products are most in demand?
Today, organic foods are the fastest-growing industries. There is still much to be done, even though we have come so far from our roots.
Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer and better for the environment. They also make it more affordable for consumers.
But they tend to be more expensive. The Organic Food Index was created to address this. We wanted to determine which foods are the most popular among shoppers today and whether these trends are changing.
The results show that organic food is becoming increasingly popular. Between 2011-2012, nearly half of Americans shopped for organic foods.
The USDA reports that organic production increased 10% last year. The U.S. now produces 9% of its agricultural output from organic food.
Although organic food is gaining popularity, it appears that consumers still have to pay a premium for it. According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), average retail prices for organic food are almost double those of conventional alternatives.
Despite this, organic food is growing at a faster rate than any other food segment. You can see that organic food has been steadily increasing since 2009.
According to OTA however, the volume in supermarkets of organic products grew by 14% from 2010 to 2011.
This is due to consumer demand for healthier food, which explains why organic foods sales are rising across all age groups.
However, the younger generation is leading the charge in choosing organic food. Millennials are twice as likely to buy organic food compared to baby boomers. 25 percent of organic food purchases are made by young adults younger than 35.
Why should I go organic?
Many health issues have been linked to conventional agriculture, including obesity, diabetes and cancer. You must make healthy choices when buying food.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG), offers these tips to help you choose "cleaner" foods:
Buy organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible.
USDA organic labels for meat, poultry eggs, milk and cheese as well butter and honey are recommended.
Avoid processed foods that are labeled "natural" or "no added ingredients."
Make sure you read through all the ingredients. If an ingredient isn't listed, it may be added during processing.
It is better to eat fresh meats than canned or frozen. Foods that are frozen or canned often have less nutritionally-rich ingredients, such as high fructosecorn syrup.

5 Reasons You Should Buy Organic Products
Organic foods are organically grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. They contain no genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or irradiated ingredients. Their production methods do not involve sewage sludge or industrial solvents. During its growth, the food's natural environment remains unaffected by contamination. It is free from artificial additives and preservatives. It does not contain hormones or antibiotics. In addition, they are produced under conditions that allow them to retain their nutritional value and freshness for longer periods.
- Health benefits. Nonorganic produce is more chemically-laden than organic. This makes it less likely to cause allergies or sensitivities. You also consume fewer toxic substances and carcinogens.
- Eco-friendliness. Organic produce is low in water consumption. Because it takes so much energy to grow conventionally, organic farms tend to be located far away from urban areas where there's plenty of pollution. This helps to reduce the amount of air pollution.

- Nutrition. Many conventional processed foods contain harmful substances like BPA and GMOs. If you want to avoid these, stick to whole foods such as meat, eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, beans, fruit, veggies, and herbs.
