What is organic meat?

Organic meat is food that has not been treated with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Organic meat is also a guarantee that the animals weren’t fed any genetically altered feed. This means that the meat is safe for consumption as there aren’t any harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are also healthier for the environment. We reduce the amount of pollution in our rivers, lakes, and landfills by eating organic food. Organic farmers don't use harmful chemicals to kill birds and insects, which helps wildlife.

It is best to buy organic meats locally as much as possible. Local shopping helps keep more money in your community than it does out of state. Local businesses often pass along savings to customers when shopping locally. Local businesses are more likely to keep jobs here than export them abroad.


What are organic fruit?

Organic food does not contain pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Organic foods also have more nutrients such as vitamins C, E and K plus omega-3 fatty acid. These nutritious ingredients make organic foods better for our bodies, and for the planet.

Organic foods are grown with sustainable agricultural practices that help to preserve soil quality, and increase biological diversity. They are free from harmful chemicals, radiation, and sewage sludge.

Many organic products are not associated with produce. They include dairy and meat, poultry, eggs baked goods, pet food, household cleaning supplies, and personal care products.

The USDA defines organic as crops that are grown according to federal standards. To grow these foods, farmers cannot use non-organic (or conventional) methods. However, they can use approved organic pest control methods like crop rotation and covering cropping or animal feed made with organic materials.

Additionally, the farmer must adhere to guidelines concerning the amount of fertilizer and pesticide that he uses during the growing seasons and how he rotates his fields among various crops. GMOs, artificial growth hormones, synthetic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are not allowed in the fields of farmers.

Vegetables and fruits labeled as "100% organic" fulfill all of the requirements. But not all farms will label their products 100% organic. That would confuse consumers. Instead, they will label their product as "made with organic ingredients. "


What are the benefits of organic products for skin?

Organic skincare products do not contain synthetic chemicals like parabens,phthalates, mineral oils, petroleum jelly or petrolatum.

Organic skincare products are also free of artificial colours, fragrances, preservatives, emulsifiers, GMOs, petrochemicals, animal testing (except cosmetics tested on animals), pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals, and other contaminants.

They also have the ability to support healthy skin, prevent premature ageing, promote healing after injuries and overall well-being.

These are some terms that you might see when looking for organic products

  • Paraben Free- These are chemicals that help to keep certain cosmetics stable. But, they can also be toxic if taken in large quantities.
  • Fragrance Free - The product is not scented with essential oils.
  • Cruelty-Free: No animals were hurt during manufacturing.
  • Natural Ingredients - The ingredient is derived naturally from the animal or plant.
  • Vegan/Vegetarian - the ingredients are either vegan or vegetarian.
  • Gluten-Free - this means that gluten was removed from the formulation.
  • Non-Toxic: The product does not contain toxic substances, carcinogens or any other harmful compounds that could cause harm to your health.
  • Biodegradable product - when thrown out, the product will disintegrate into harmless components.
  • Pesticide Free – There were no pesticides used during the harvesting or growing process.
  • GMO-Free - this means that none of the ingredients in the product contains genetically modified organisms.
  • Certified Organic is a certification that the ingredients of the recipe were grown using sustainable methods.


What are some things I should look out for when purchasing organic goods?

USDA-certified organic labels should be sought. This seal signifies that the product meets specific USDA standards. On packages, boxes, cartons or cans, look out for the USDA Organic seal.

When shopping for meat, ensure it comes from cows fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants, which means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle are divided into four stomach compartments, the rumen and reticulum as well as the omasum and abmasum. Organic feeding must be done on all organs of the animal in order to get the cow labelled organic 100 percent.

When buying chicken, make sure it comes only from chickens fed 100% organic feed and never given antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

It is important to ensure that dairy products are from cows that were fed 100% organic feed. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. The fourth stomach compartment--the cow's udder--is where milk is produced.

Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. A label for pork might say "95% organic", which means that 95% of the feed used by the pork came from organic sources.


What are some of the most popular organic products in your country?

Today organic food is the fastest-growing sector. But even though we've come a long way from our roots, there is still much room for growth.

Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer, more sustainable, and cheaper for consumers.

They are also generally more expensive. That is why we developed the Organic Food Index. We wanted to know which foods are popular today and whether trends are changing.

The results showed that organic food is increasing in popularity. Between 2011 and 2012, the number of Americans who shop for organic food increased by almost 50%.

According to USDA, organic food production increased by 10% only last year. Currently, organic food accounts for 9% in the U.S. agricultural production.

Organic food is certainly on the rise but consumers are still not able to afford it. According to the Organic Trade Association OTA, organic food retail prices are about twice those of conventional products.

However, organic food is growing more quickly than any other part of the food market. If you look closely at the data, it will be apparent that organic food consumption has steadily increased since 2009.

According to OTA, organic products sold in supermarkets grew 14% between 2010-2011.

This is because of consumer demand for healthier products, which explains the rise in organic food sales across all age categories.

However, the younger generation is leading the charge in choosing organic food. Millennials have twice the likelihood of buying organic food as baby boomers. And young adults under 35 years old account for 25% of all organic food purchases.

Organic foods: Are organic foods healthier?

Organic food is produced without chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. They are grown under natural conditions without artificial inputs such as fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic engineering. Organic farming methods include crop rotation, cover, composting animal manure and recycling wastewater.

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP), established in 2002 to regulate production, handling and processing of organic products sold in the United States. Organic agricultural products must be produced in accordance with federal standards as set out by the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Furthermore, the NOP rules require organic products to be free of banned substances such as pesticides residues and growth hormones.

In the U.S., there are two types of certification programs available for producers who want their products labelled "organic": one for farmers and ranchers and another for manufacturers. Each program requires an annual audit of operations to ensure compliance with strict standards. There are several certifying organizations that offer these services. These include the CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers as well as Quality Assurance International and the American Grassfed Association. The three organizations all provide verification by third parties that farms have followed strict guidelines for environmental stewardship as well as labour practices and the care of livestock.

According to USDA’s Economic Research Service, organic farming accounted for $4.7Billion in 2013 sales. It was a 23 percent rise in retail spending for certified organic products since 2009. The number of grocery stores that sold organic products increased 12 percent over the same period. Direct purchases of organic produce saw a 29 percent increase in spending, while seafood, meat, poultry and eggs experienced a 1 percent growth.

Although organic food can be more expensive than regular food, many consumers feel that its quality is well worth the additional cost. Consumer Reports conducted a survey in 2015 and found that 88 percent of respondents would pay more for organic foods if they had higher nutritional value. Health Affairs also published a study showing that organic foods are less likely for people to get heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or obesity.

Although there is no evidence eating organic foods prevents or treats any diseases, some studies suggest that consuming them might improve overall health by reducing exposure to specific contaminants and pesticides. One example is the conclusion reached by a review of 31 studies, published in 2010, that organically reared beef was significantly less toxic than conventionally-raised beef. A separate analysis of 11 publications from 2012 produced similar results.

A 2014 report from the Environmental Working Group looked at data from the Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Resource Center and found that the incidence of foodborne illness caused by E. coli, salmonella, listeria monocytogenes, campylobacter, and verotoxin-producing E. coli O157:H7 decreased when comparing organic to non-organic chicken, pork, beef, lamb, milk, and cheese. The Environmental Working Group also found that E.coli O157 has been associated with fewer human illnesses in children and adults since 2006, when USDA began requiring stricter organic standards for animal production.
