Organic nut salad toppings for a healthy lunch

Nuts add a delicious, nutritious, and healthy component to any salad. They're high in protein and healthy fats, and contain a wide variety of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.

The health benefits of incorporating more organic nuts into your diet include a reduction in heart disease and stroke risk, lower cholesterol levels, and improved insulin sensitivity.

Pears

Pears are a powerhouse fruit, packed with fiber and vitamins that promote gut health, protect against heart disease and diabetes, and help with weight loss. They also provide an abundance of antioxidants to ward off diseases.

Aside from containing vitamin C and potassium, pears are rich in magnesium. This mineral helps to regulate blood pressure and improve cardiovascular health, lowering your risk for stroke.

They are also a good source of dietary fiber and water, which keeps you feeling full longer and less prone to snacking throughout the day.

Almonds are another superfood that pairs well with pears in this salad, providing a healthy dose of fat, protein and fiber for a balanced meal. They are also a great source of phosphorus and potassium, which aid in muscle growth and bone development.

Pomegranate Seeds

Pomegranate seeds are an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin C, folate, potassium and dietary fiber. They are also a good source of antioxidants and are low in calories.

They are sweet-tart and delicious all on their own, but they are also a great addition to salads, yogurt, oatmeal, smoothies and more. They are high in dietary fiber, which helps prevent constipation and maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Eating pomegranate seeds regularly can help reduce the risk of heart disease, boost memory and improve skin appearance, among other health benefits. They are also an excellent source of niacin, vitamins B6, folic acid and iron.

Pomegranate arils can be eaten fresh, pressed to make juice or dried like the East Indian spice anardana. They can also be pressed into oil, which is used for skin and hair care as well as to flavor teas, beverages and liqueurs.

Parmesan Crisps

Adding nuts to your salad is a great way to boost your nutrition. Nuts provide a great source of healthy fats. Walnuts, almonds, pistachios, macadamia nuts, and hazelnuts all make tasty salad toppings!

They also add texture to your meal. Consider swapping out croutons or other crunchy/fried toppings you may typically put on your salad for nuts!

These easy keto Parmesan crisps are delicious and ready in minutes. They’re perfect as a low carb snack or as an appetizer to share with friends.

Besides being low carb, these cheese chips are gluten free, vegetarian, and align well with most special diets. They’re also a good source of calcium and protein.

Bacon

Bacon adds a flavorful crunch to any salad, making it a perfect addition for lunches. It can be used as a topping, or tossed into the salad with the dressing before serving.

Almonds, pecans, hazelnuts and pine nuts are other delicious nut salad toppings that are low in calories and high in nutrients. They also provide healthy fats, which help reduce your cholesterol levels.

They are a great source of protein and fiber, which help you feel full longer and prevent overeating. They are also a good source of iron and B vitamins.

Bacon is also a source of oleic acid, which helps lower your low density lipoprotein (LDL) level, raise your high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels and decrease inflammation in the body. Additionally, it contains trace minerals like selenium and phosphorus.

How To

Organic foods: Are organic foods healthier?

Organic foods are grown without the use chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. They are grown in natural environments without artificial inputs (fungicides/herbicides/hormones, antibiotics or genetic engineering). Crop rotation, cover crops and the use of compost animal manure, wastewater recycling, and integrated pest management (IPM) are some examples of organic farming.

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) was established in 2002 to regulate the production, handling, processing, labelling, sale, and distribution of organic products sold in the United States. NOP regulations assure that organic agricultural products comply with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Furthermore, the NOP rules require organic products to be free of banned substances such as pesticides residues and growth hormones.

There are two types available in the U.S. for producers who want their products to be labeled "organic". One for farmers and ranchers, and one for manufacturers. Both programs require audits of operations each year to ensure that they are meeting strict standards. There are several certifying organizations that offer these services. These include the CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers as well as Quality Assurance International and the American Grassfed Association. Each of these organizations provides third-party verification to verify that farms are following strict guidelines in regards to environmental stewardship, labour practices and care for livestock.

According to USDA's Economic Research Service (ERS), organic agriculture accounted in 2013 for $4.7 Billion in sales. That year, retail spending on certified organic products totalled nearly $1.5 billion, representing a 23 percent increase since 2009. This period saw a 12 percent increase in grocery store sales. Spending directly on organic produce grew by 29 percent while that on meat, poultry, eggs and seafood only grew by 1 percent.

While organic food may be more expensive, consumers think its superior quality justifies the higher price. Consumer Reports conducted a 2015 survey and found that 88% would pay more if organic food had better nutritional value. A Health Affairs study also found that organic food consumers are less likely to develop health problems such as diabetes, cancer, obesity, heart disease, depression, and other diseases.

Although there is no evidence eating organic foods prevents or treats any diseases, some studies suggest that consuming them might improve overall health by reducing exposure to specific contaminants and pesticides. According to a 2010 review of 31 studies, organically raised beef showed significantly lower levels in toxic chemicals and parasites than conventionally produced beef. A separate analysis of eleven studies published in 2012 led to similar conclusions.

The Environmental Working Group released a report in 2014 that analyzed data from USDA's Agricultural Marketing Resource Center. They found that there was a decrease in foodborne illness due to E.coli, salmonella, listeria moncytogenes or campylobacter. After 2006, when USDA required stricter organic standards in animal raising for human consumption, the group noted that E.coli O157 was less common among children and adults.
