Why should you buy organic?
Conventional agriculture has been linked to several health problems, including asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes, cancer, birth defects, hormone imbalances, and other diseases. It is important to make informed choices about food purchases.
The Environmental Working Group offers these tips:
Always buy organic fruits & vegetables.
Look for USDA organic labels on meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and honey.
Avoid processed foods that claim to be "natural" and "no additives."
Check ingredient lists carefully. It is possible to add an ingredient during processing if it isn't already listed.
You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Canned and frozen foods can often have lower nutritional content like high fructose syrup.
Which organic products are most in demand?
Today, organic food is the fastest growing industry. However, we still have a lot to learn from our roots.
Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer and better for the environment. They also make it more affordable for consumers.
However, they are also more expensive. We created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to see which foods are most in demand today and how these trends are changing.
These results indicate that organic food is growing in popularity. Between 2011-2012, nearly half of Americans shopped for organic foods.
The USDA reports that organic production increased 10% last year. Organic food now accounts for 9% of U.S. agricultural output.
While organic food is certainly gaining ground, it seems that it is still an expensive choice for consumers. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.
Organic food is growing faster that any other sector of the food industry. You can see that organic food has been steadily increasing since 2009.
According to OTA, organic products sold in supermarkets grew 14% between 2010-2011.
This increase reflects consumer demand for healthier foods, which explains why organic food sales are increasing across all age groups.
Younger generations are also leading the way in organic food choices. Millennials are twice likely to choose organic food than the baby boomers. 25 percent of organic food purchases are made by young adults younger than 35.
Is organic food better for us?
According to the Environmental Working Groupβs latest report on pesticide residues, organic fruits/vegetables had nearly half as many pesticides than non-organic. They found that organic apples contained eight times fewer pesticides than non-organic apples, while organic strawberries were four times cleaner than their conventional counterparts.
Other studies suggest that eating organic food reduces exposure to toxic metals like lead and mercury. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. Another study concluded that pregnant women should avoid consuming conventional fish due to high levels of mercury.
Organic food appears to be more safe than non-organic. Experts recommend that fresh produce and vegetables be used whenever possible to reduce your chances of developing cancer.

How To
How to get Organic Meat on a budget
In this post, I'll share tips and tricks on buying organic meat without breaking your bank account.
Here are some tips to help you find low-cost organic meats. Also, how much per pound they cost. You'll learn how to get the best from what you buy.
It doesn't take a lot to eat healthy. Sometimes it takes creativity to save money and eat well. Here's my list of ways to keep your food costs down while enjoying organic meat's benefits.
- Wholesale clubs - Sams Club and Costco are great places for bulk food like chicken breasts or pork chops. If you are fortunate enough to live near one, you may be able get discounts up to 50 lbs on large quantities. This way you won't end up with any leftover meat. If you buy it in bulk you can freeze it so it lasts more.
- Shop around online - Tons of websites sell meat at discounted prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry weekly deals, including free shipping for orders above $35 There are also discounts on lamb steaks (lamb steaks), ground beef, pork loins, and beef roasts. It is easy to browse their website and check out what is on offer at different times.
- Look for a local farmer. They usually charge less than big-box retailers, as they don't have to pay large stocking fees. Plus, they know exactly what their animals ate and drank, so they know exactly what's inside their bodies.
- Look for meat cuts that are leanest - Lean meat is generally cheaper to cook than fatty meat. So, look for the leanest cuts. The most popular cuts are flank steak, sirloin steak and tenderloin roast. These cuts are very low in fat and high in protein.
- You don't have to be afraid to try new recipes. You can cut down on your grocery costs by starting to cook with ingredients you don't have before. It's possible to create delicious meals with fresh tomatoes, onions and garlic using olive oil, spices, and garlic.
- Be creative with leftovers - If you have leftover cooked meat or poultry, use them for sandwiches, salads, soups, casseroles, etc. You can make quick meals or lunches from leftover meat.
So, there you are! That's my list of tips on how to afford organic meat even though you're on a budget. Are there any other tips you can share? What other tips do you have for me?
