What are organic fruit?
Organic food does not contain pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Organic foods contain more nutrients like vitamins A, C and E, as well as omega-3 fatty oils. These healthy ingredients make organic food better for our bodies and the planet.
Organic foods are produced with sustainable farming practices that promote soil quality and biological diversity. They are free of harmful chemicals and sewage sludge.
Most people associate organics with fruits, but organic products also include dairy, meat and poultry, as well as baked goods, personal care items, pet food and household cleaning supplies.

What should I look out for when buying organic products?
USDA-certified organic labels should be sought. This certification means that the product is certified organic by USDA. You will find the USDA Organic seal on all boxes, cartons and cans.
When you shop for meat, ensure that it comes from cows who are fed organic feed. Cattle are ruminants which means that they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle can be found with four stomach compartments: the rumen, the reticulum, omasum, abomasum and omasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.
Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores. This means they can eat both plant and animal food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive system that includes a crop (proventriculus), gizzard and small intestine.
You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Like ruminants, dairy cattle have four stomachs. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.
You should always check the label before purchasing any other livestock. This will let you know what percentage of the diet was given to the animals. A label for pork might say "95% organic", which means that 95% of the feed used by the pork came from organic sources.
