Healthy eating doesn't require you to spend a lot. Sometimes, it takes a bit of creativity to save money while eating well. Here's my list to help you keep food costs low while still enjoying all the health benefits of organic meat.
- Wholesale clubs - Sams Club and Costco are great places for bulk food like chicken breasts or pork chops. You may be able to get large quantities of meat for as low as 50 pounds if your home is near one of these stores. This ensures that meat is not wasted. You can also freeze the meat if you buy it bulk.
- You can shop online for meat at great prices. Amazon has Prime Pantry, a weekly sale that offers free shipping for orders over $35. There are also discounts on lamb steaks (lamb steaks), ground beef, pork loins, and beef roasts. It's easy to browse their website and see what's available at different times.
- Locate a farmer in your area. Local farmers are usually cheaper than big box retailers as they don’t pay high stocking fees. Plus, they know exactly what their animals ate and drank, so they know exactly what's inside their bodies.
- Look for meat cuts that are leanest - Lean meat is generally cheaper to cook than fatty meat. The leanest cuts are therefore preferred. These include sirloin, tenderloin, top round, flank, and top-round steaks. These cuts are very low-fat and high in proteins.
- Try new recipes. Start cooking with ingredients that you have never used before. This is one of the easiest ways reduce your grocery costs. You'll be surprised at how many delicious dishes can you create using fresh tomatoes.
- You can be creative with leftovers. If you have leftover poultry or meat, you can use them to make sandwiches, soups and casseroles. For quick lunches, leftover meat can be used to make dinners.
