Frequently Asked Questions

Is organic a guarantee that the product is pesticide-free

Organic food is free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers. This means there is little or no exposure to chemicals such as fertilizers and herbicides.

Because organic produce does not contain harmful additives it has more nutrients that conventionally produced foods.

The USDA National Organic Program, (NOP), requires farmers to adhere to strict guidelines when cultivating organic crops.

These guidelines address soil preparation, crop rotations, pest control, water conservation, harvesting, and other practices.

Organic farming also promotes healthy ecosystems which are beneficial to wildlife and natural habitats.

What is the difference between organic and inorganic foods?

Organic food is free from pesticides, chemical fertilizers and sewage sludge. It can also be grown without irradiation or genetic modification. Organic farming practices support soil health, water quality, and animal welfare.

Inorganic foods are produced using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and sewage effluent. Radiated foods can be treated with radiation. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created by biological engineering techniques.

"Natural" is sometimes used interchangeably in the context of "organic." Natural does not always mean organic. Products labelled "natural", however, may contain synthetic chemicals.

Organic produce is more nutritious than traditional produce due to the fact that it contains less harmful chemicals and pesticides. In addition, organic farmers do not use artificial fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics, or pesticides.

What is organic meat?

Organic meat means real food, grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. Organic meat also indicates that animals were not fed genetically modified food. The meat is safe to consume because it contains no harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are also better for our environment. Organic foods reduce pollution in rivers, lakes and landfills. Organic farmers generally don't use toxic chemicals that kill birds and insects. We help to protect wildlife.

You can eat organic meats and produce whenever you can. Buying local helps keep more money circulating within the community rather than going out of state. Local businesses often pass savings on to customers who shop locally. Local businesses are more likely to keep jobs here than export them abroad.

Are organic foods better for us?

According to the Environmental Working Group's recent report on pesticide residues within foods, organic fruits & vegetables contained nearly half of the pesticides that non-organic varieties. The Environmental Working Group found that organic apples contained eight-times less pesticides than other non-organic fruits, and organic strawberries had fourfold more than their conventional counterparts.

Studies have also shown that organic foods reduce the risk of mercury and lead poisoning. One study revealed that children who ate organic meat had 33 per cent lower blood lead levels than their counterparts who didn't eat organic meats. Another study concluded that pregnant women should avoid consuming conventional fish due to high levels of mercury.

Organic food is generally safer than non-organic. Experts recommend eating fresh fruits and veggies whenever possible to reduce the chance of developing cancer.

What is inorganic?

Organic food is not produced with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. These chemicals can be harmful for your health.

Organic food is free from harmful substances like pesticides and herbicides. These chemicals can be harmful to both animals and people.

Inorganic food is meat, fish, eggs and dairy products, including butter, yogurts honey, yogurts, butter, cream, cheese, butter, yogurts, honey and grains.

The term organic refers to the way an agricultural product is grown. Organic farming, for example, uses natural methods and soil amendments in order to grow crops. Conventional farming, however, uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

Foods labeled as organic must meet strict guidelines by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The National Organic Program Standards state that organic food must be freed from banned substances like antibiotics, growthhormones, genetically altered organisms (GMOs) and industrial solvents. Organic food must be grown without the use of toxic chemicals or petroleum-based fertilizers.

How To

What happens to your Body When You Switch To Organic Products?

Organic products do not contain synthetic fertilizers or hormones. They come from clean water sources and free-range animals. The term "organic" means they do not contain any chemicals or additives. This product was produced by nature and therefore contains no harmful substances.

The term "natural", refers only to how food was grown. It is usually used to describe foods that haven't been processed into their final form (e.g., fruits). Natural foods are often fresher because they're not subject to heat radiation, chemical preservatives or any other treatment. However, some people believe natural doesn't necessarily mean healthy. Experts say that there aren't many differences between organic and conventional food. Both types are tested for safety as well as quality. Organic produce contains fewer pesticide and other pollutants than conventionally-grown produce.

Most grocery stores now sell organic products. For organic meats, poultry, eggs and seafood, you should check with your local supermarket. Some companies only sell organic products. Others have separate sections. You should look for USDA Certified Organic, Non GMO Project Verified (Biodynamic Association Certified), Rainforest Alliance Certified, and other certifications.

These foods should be avoided by women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Unborn babies and infants can be affected by pesticides.
