Frequently Asked Questions

Why should you buy organic?

Conventional agriculture has been linked to several health problems, including asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes, cancer, birth defects, hormone imbalances, and other diseases. Make healthy food choices.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) offers the following tips on how to pick "cleaner" food:

As much as possible, purchase organic fruits or vegetables

USDA organic labels for meat, poultry eggs, milk and cheese as well butter and honey are recommended.

Avoid processed foods labeled as "natural" or "no additives."

Be sure to read all ingredient labels. If an ingredient isn't listed, it may be added during processing.

Choose fresh meats over frozen or canned ones. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.

Do organic foods have health benefits?

Even though organic foods might not be for everyone, there are some health benefits. They can be beneficial for your health if you eat them often.

Organic food does not contain artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also doesn't contain fungicides. This means that organic produce is grown without harmful chemicals that could harm human health.

Also, there are fewer additives that are used in processing. You're more likely to eat organic products than you are non-organic.

Research shows that organic produce contains more nutrients and antioxidants compared to conventionally grown fruit and vegetables.

While organic farming is generally more expensive than conventional farming, they often produce better results. When farmers grow crops organically, they encourage soil fertility and biodiversity.

This helps preserve water resources and prevents erosion. Plus, because organic farms aren't treated with toxic chemicals, these farms typically require less energy and fuel.

Many people are concerned that organic food is more expensive than regular foods. Prices will vary depending where you live. For example, organic apples are generally more expensive than conventional apples.

However, organic fruit is more affordable if you compare the price of a basket of both types.

Do you want to go organic?

It depends on you. You shouldn't bother if you don't enjoy organic food.

You can still buy organic food if your preference is for good tasting food. Organic food is safer because organic produce is not grown by commercial growers who use pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

Organic agriculture protects our environment by conserving natural resources and promoting biodiversity.

Why is organic produce important?

Our health is dependent on organic produce. It is the best way for us to eat healthy food. It's better for us and more sustainable because it doesn’t depend on pesticides or fertilizers.

Organic farming uses natural methods of cultivating crops that are free from harmful chemicals. This results in fewer environmental pollutants and makes organic farming safer. Organic food is a way to help the environment and protect yourself.

The health benefits of organic foods go well beyond our bodies. We all know how toxic processed food can make you feel. However, organic fruits & vegetables aren’t treated with chemical sprays. It means that organic fruits and vegetables taste better, last longer, and are brighter.

That's why eating organic matters so much. Because it's not only healthy for you, it's healthier for the world.

What should I be looking out for when shopping organic products

USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This guarantees that the product meets certain USDA standards. Look for the "USDA Organic" seal on packages, boxes, cartons, cans, and jars.

When shopping for meat ensure it comes only from cows that are fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants, which means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have 4 stomach compartments: Rumen, reticulum and omasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.

Buy chicken from only organic chickens that have been fed 100% organic food and are not given antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

Buy only dairy products from cows that have been fed organically grown feed. Dairy cows have four stomach compartments, just like ruminants. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.

Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. Pork may be labeled "95% Organic" which means that 95 percent of its feed was organic.

What are the most loved organic products?

The fastest-growing industry is organic food. We've come far from our roots but there is still room for improvement.

Organic products are the future. They are safer, better for our environment, and more affordable for consumers.

But they tend to be more expensive. We created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to see which foods are most in demand today and how these trends are changing.

The results of the study show that organic food has become more popular. Between 2011-2012, nearly half of Americans shopped for organic foods.

According to USDA, organic food production increased by 10% only last year. Organic food now makes up 9% U.S. agriculture output.

Organic food is certainly on the rise but consumers are still not able to afford it. The average retail price for organic food is almost twice that of conventional foods, according to the Organic Trade Association (OTA).

Despite this, organic food is growing at a faster rate than any other food segment. You'll notice that organic food consumption has increased steadily since 2009.

In fact, according to OTA, the volume of organic products sold in supermarkets grew by 14% between 2010 and 2011.

This is because of consumer demand for healthier products, which explains the rise in organic food sales across all age categories.

Younger generations are choosing organic food more often than older generations. Millennials are twice likely to choose organic food than the baby boomers. The 25% of organic food purchase made by younger adults below 35 are made up of young adults.

How To

What happens to your body when you switch to organic products?

Organic products can be grown without synthetic fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They come from clean water sources, and are raised on free-range animals. Organic products are those that do not contain chemicals or other additives. This product was naturally produced and contains no harmful chemicals.

The term "natural" refers to how food is grown. It's used to describe foods that have not been altered into their final form (e.g. fruits). Natural foods are often fresher than others because they haven't been treated with heat, radiation, or chemical preservatives. However, some people believe natural doesn't necessarily mean healthy. Experts aren't sure if there is much to be different between organic and traditional foods. Both types of food have been tested for safety and quality. But organic produce has fewer pollutants and pesticide residues than conventionally grown produce.

Most grocery stores now carry organic meats and poultry. If you are looking for organic meat, poultry and eggs, check with your local grocery store. Some companies offer only organic products while others have separate sections. You should look for USDA Certified Organic, Non GMO Project Verified (Biodynamic Association Certified), Rainforest Alliance Certified, and other certifications.

You should avoid eating these items if you are pregnant or nursing. Pesticides have been shown to harm infants and unborn babies.
