  • Certified Organic is a certification that the ingredients of the recipe were grown using sustainable methods.


How can you tell if your produce is organic?

These three labels are essential if you want to be certain that you are purchasing organic produce.

USDA Organic Certified – Produced by USDA and certified as 100% organic.

Certified Naturally Grown: Produce that has been grown in accordance with organic practices, but has yet to receive certification from USDA.

Pastured/Freerange - Products made from animals who graze freely and are outdoors.

These labels indicate that the product meets specific criteria, which include:

  • There are no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers
  • There are no genetically modified organisms
  • The animal is never given antibiotics
  • Animals are not ever given hormones.
  • There are no growth-promoting drugs
  • No feed additives
  • No artificial ingredients
  • No irradiation
  • There is no sewage sludge
  • GMOs prohibited
  • There have never been any antibiotics given.
  • No hormones ever given
  • No growth-promoting medications
  • No feed-additives
  • No artificial ingredients

What are organic fruits and vegetables?

Organic foods are free of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Organic foods also have more nutrients such as vitamins C, E and K plus omega-3 fatty acid. These nutritious ingredients make organic foods better for our bodies, and for the planet.

Organic foods are produced with sustainable farming practices that promote soil quality and biological diversity. They are free of harmful chemicals and sewage sludge.

Most people associate organics with fruits, but organic products also include dairy, meat and poultry, as well as baked goods, personal care items, pet food and household cleaning supplies.

Produces labelled as 100% organic meet all requirements. But not all farms will label their products 100% organic. That would confuse consumers. Instead, they will say that their product is "made with organic components". "

Today, organic food is the fastest growing industry. Even though we have come a long ways from our roots there is still plenty of room for growth.

Organic products will be the future. Organic products are safer, more sustainable, and cheaper for consumers.

They also tend to have higher prices. That is why we developed the Organic Food Index. We wanted to know which foods are popular today and whether trends are changing.

The results of the study show that organic food has become more popular. Between 2011 and 2012 the number of Americans buying organic food increased nearly 50%.

According to the USDA, organic production increased by 10% last year alone. The U.S. now produces 9% of its agricultural output from organic food.

Organic food is growing in popularity but is still expensive. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.

Despite this, organic food is growing at a faster rate than any other food segment. If you examine the data closely, you will see that organic foods have grown steadily in consumption since 2009.

According to OTA however, the volume in supermarkets of organic products grew by 14% from 2010 to 2011.

This increase is due to consumers' demand for healthier foods. It is why organic food sales are growing across all ages.

However, the younger generation is leading the charge in choosing organic food. Millennials are twice as likely to buy organic food compared to baby boomers. 25 percent of organic food purchases are made by young adults younger than 35.

I will give you tips on where to find cheap organic meats and how much they cost per pound. You will learn how to make the best out of what you purchase.

You don't need to spend a lot of money to eat healthily. Sometimes you need to be creative in order to save money and still eat healthy. Here's my list to help you keep food costs low while still enjoying all the health benefits of organic meat.

  1. Buy bulk food at wholesale clubs. Sams Club and Costco both offer great options for buying bulk foods like pork chops and chicken breasts. You may be able to get large quantities of meat for as low as 50 pounds if your home is near one of these stores. This way, you won't waste any meat. You can also freeze the meat if you buy it bulk.
  2. Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. Amazon, for example, offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal that includes free shipping on orders greater than $35 They offer discounts on beef roasts, ground beef, lamb steaks, and pork loins. It's simple to visit their website to view the latest offerings at different times.
  3. Local farmers often charge less than big box retailers due to the fact that they don't have large overheads for stocking their shelves. Local farmers also know exactly what their animals have eaten and drank so they can determine what's in their bodies.
  4. Look for meat cuts that are leanest - Lean meat is generally cheaper to cook than fatty meat. You should always look for the best cuts. The most popular cuts are flank steak, sirloin steak and tenderloin roast. These cuts have high protein and low fat.
