Frequently Asked Questions

Is organic food better for us?

According to the Environmental Working Group, organic vegetables and fruits had half the amount of pesticides as non-organic. They discovered that organic apples contained eight more pesticides per gram than non-organic ones, while organic strawberries contained four times as many pesticides.

Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. Another study concluded that pregnant women should avoid consuming conventional fish due to high levels of mercury.

Organic food is generally safer than non-organic. Experts recommend fresh vegetables and fruits whenever possible in order to reduce the risk of getting cancer.

What is an inorganic food?

Organic food does not use pesticides or fertilizers. These chemicals can cause health problems in organic foods.

Organic food is free from harmful substances like pesticides and herbicides. These chemicals can harm humans and animals.

Inorganic food includes meat, fish, eggs, milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, honey, grains, vegetables, fruits, spices, and herbs.

The term organic refers to the way an agricultural product is grown. Organic farming, for example, uses natural methods and soil amendments in order to grow crops. Conventional farming, however, uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), must ensure that organic food meets strict standards. The National Organic Program Standards require that all organic foods are free of prohibited substances such as antibiotics and growth hormones, genetically modified organisms or industrial solvents. Organic food must not be produced with toxic chemicals, petroleum or sewage sludges or ionizing radioactive substances.

What are organic fruits?

Organic food is free from pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and hormones. They also contain more nutrients, such as vitamins A, C, E, and K, plus omega-3 fatty acids. Organic food is healthier for the environment and our bodies.

Organic foods are made using sustainable agricultural practices, which protect soil quality and promote biodiversity. They are free of harmful chemicals and sewage sludge.

While most consumers associate organics with produce, many organic products include dairy, meat, poultry, eggs, baked goods, personal care items, pet food, and household cleaning supplies.

According to the USDA, "organic" means that crops are raised in compliance with federal standards. These foods cannot be grown by farmers using conventional methods. However, they may use approved natural pest control methods, such as crop rotation and cover cropping, and animal feed made from organic materials.

A farmer must also adhere to guidelines about how much fertilizer or pesticide he applies during the growing season. Also, he must rotate his fields between different crops. GMOs, artificial growth hormones, synthetic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are not allowed in the fields of farmers.

The requirements for organic fruits and vegetables are met if they are labeled 100 percent organic. Some farms don't label their products 100% organic, as it could confuse consumers. Instead, they will label their product as "made with organic ingredients. "

How To

Five Reasons to Purchase Organic Products

Organic food is grown without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. They do not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or radioactive ingredients. Their production processes do not include sewage or industrial solvents. The food's natural environment is protected from contamination during its growth cycle. It does not contain artificial preservatives or additives. There are no hormones and antibiotics used. They are also grown in conditions that ensure they retain their nutritional value for longer periods of time.

  1. Health benefits. Organic produce contains fewer chemicals than nonorganic produce. This means that it is less likely to cause allergies. This means you're also consuming less toxic and carcinogens.
  2. Eco-friendliness. Produce grown without synthetic fertilizer and pesticides requires very little water. Organic farms are typically located far away form areas of high pollution and where conventional growth is difficult because it requires so much effort. This helps to reduce the amount of air pollution.
  3. Sustainability. Organic farming is based on soil fertility and not chemical fertilizers. This results in soils that are healthier and have higher levels of organic matter. Soil health improves when farmers rotate crops and leave land fallow periodically. Strong immune systems are developed when farm animals only eat grasses and grains that have not been treated with hormones or antibiotics.
  4. Taste. Traditional fruits and vegetables are often bland due to the fact that they are picked at peak ripeness and shipped long distances for grocery stores. Organic produce tastes richer and sweeter because it was harvested while still unripe.
  5. Nutrition. Many conventional processed foods contain harmful substances like BPA and GMOs. If you want to avoid these, stick to whole foods such as meat, eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, beans, fruit, veggies, and herbs.
