What's the difference between organic foods and inorganic food?

What are some things I should look out for when purchasing organic goods?

USDA-certified organic labels are desirable. This certification means that the product is certified organic by USDA. Look out for the USDA Organic seal on boxes, cartons cans and jars.

When buying meat, make sure it is from organically fed cows. Cattle are ruminants. This means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach areas: rumen (reticulum), omasum (omasum), and abomasum. Organic feeding must be done on all organs of the animal in order to get the cow labelled organic 100 percent.

Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores. This means they can eat both plant and animal food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

It is important to ensure that dairy products are from cows that were fed 100% organic feed. Just like ruminants, dairy cows also have four stomachs. Milk comes from the fourth stomach compartment--the udder.

Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.

Here are my tips for finding cheap organic meats. I'll also tell you how much each pound costs. You will be able to make the most of what you have purchased.

To eat well, you don't have to spend a lot. Sometimes you need to be creative in order to save money and still eat healthy. Here are some ways you can cut down on food expenses while still getting the best from organic meat.

  1. Buy at wholesale clubs - Costco and Sams Club are great places to shop for bulk foods like chicken breasts and pork chops. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. This way, you won't waste any meat. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
  2. Online shopping is a great way to find meat at a discounted price. Amazon, for example, offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal that includes free shipping on orders greater than $35 They offer discounts on beef roasts, ground beef, lamb steaks, and pork loins. It is easy to browse their website and check out what is on offer at different times.
  3. Local farmers will usually be cheaper than big-box retailers since they don't pay large fees to stock their shelves. They know exactly what the animals ate and drank to ensure they are fully informed about what is in their bodies.
  4. Look for lean cuts of meat. Fatty meats are generally more expensive to cook. So, look for the leanest cuts. The most popular cuts are flank steak, sirloin steak and tenderloin roast. These cuts have high protein and low fat.
