Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I go organic?
Conventional agriculture has been linked with many health problems including asthma, allergies. When buying food, you must make wise choices.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG), offers these tips to help you choose "cleaner" foods:
Always buy organic fruits & vegetables.
Look for USDA organic labels on meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, and honey.
Avoid processed foods labeled as "natural" or "no additives."
Check ingredient lists carefully. It is possible to add an ingredient during processing if it isn't already listed.
Frozen and canned meats should be preferred to fresh. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.
How do you know if your food is organic?
Fresh ingredients are essential for any chef. That's because when we eat well, we feel better.
The same is true of our food. When we buy organics, we know exactly where it came from and how it was grown. We also know it was not treated using harmful chemicals.
Organic food is produced without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. These substances aren't permitted for organic farmers.
Growing organic crops is an art. There are plenty of ways to grow them safely.
Sometimes, organic farming is called sustainable agriculture. This is because organic farming uses less resources than conventional methods but provides enough nutrients for life to last.
Crop rotation, crop rotation, cover cropping and composting manure are all organic farming methods. These techniques prevent soil erosion while improving water quality.
They also reduce chemical contamination of waterways. Local farms can be found in cities that raise organic produce.
There are two types for organic products certification. One is certified under the USDA National Organic Program. The other is certified independently by certifying authorities. Both require strict organic standards to be adhered to.
USDA seals and O Seals are symbols that indicate organic certification.
What's the difference?
Organic food is made without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Organic farming practices contribute to soil health, water purity, and animal welfare.
Inorganic food is grown with pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Radiated foods are those that have been exposed to radiation. Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are created using biological engineering techniques.
"Organic" and "natural" are often interchangeable. Natural does not necessarily have to mean organic. There are also products labelled "natural" which may contain synthetic ingredients.
Organic produce is more nutritious than traditional produce due to the fact that it contains less harmful chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers are free from artificial fertilizers and pesticides.
What are the benefits of organic farming?
Organic farming provides farmers with a way of producing food without using chemicals. The farmers don't have to worry about pesticides causing harm to their crops and animals.
Organic farming also permits for the use of natural fertilizers. These fertilizers help to grow healthy plants and help to reduce the amount of chemical waste produced.
Organic farming is also beneficial for the environment. For example, organic farming uses composting techniques to re-use nutrients in the soil. This helps to reduce pollution and conserve valuable resources.
Organic farming is good for the environment and increases crop yields. This is because there is much less water used during the growing season.
Organic farming methods can also result in higher prices for farmers' produce. Consumers who are more aware about the dangers associated with pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and other chemicals will choose healthier foods.
This leads to a greater demand for organic food products. Organic farming is becoming more popular because of this.
