"Organic" is defined by the USDA as crops that have been grown following strict guidelines set forth in federal government standards. To grow these foods, farmers cannot use non-organic (or conventional) methods. However, they may use approved natural pest control methods, such as crop rotation and cover cropping, and animal feed made from organic materials.

Additionally, the farmer must adhere to guidelines concerning the amount of fertilizer and pesticide that he uses during the growing seasons and how he rotates his fields among various crops. GMOs, artificial growthhormones, synthetic insecticides, and synthetic fertilizers cannot be used by farmers.

Produces labelled as 100% organic meet all requirements. Some farms don't label their products 100% organic, as it could confuse consumers. Instead, they will label their product as "made with organic ingredients. "

In this post I'll share some tips and techniques for buying organic meat that won't break the bank.

Here are my tips for finding cheap organic meats. I'll also tell you how much each pound costs. You'll learn how to get the best from what you buy.

Healthy eating doesn't require you to spend a lot. Sometimes creativity is required to make money while still eating healthy. Here's my list of ways to keep your food costs down while enjoying organic meat's benefits.

  1. Buy bulk food at wholesale clubs. Sams Club and Costco both offer great options for buying bulk foods like pork chops and chicken breasts. If you're lucky enough to live near one of these stores, you can often get deals on large quantities of meat (up to 50 pounds). This way, you won't waste any meat. Also, if you buy in bulk, it can be frozen so it lasts for longer.
  2. You can shop online for meat at great prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal with free shipping on orders above $35. There are discounts on roasts, ground beef and lamb steaks as well as pork loins. It's simple to visit their website to view the latest offerings at different times.
  3. Find a local farmer - Local farmers usually charge less than big box retailers because they do not pay considerable fees to stock their shelves. Because they know exactly the diets and drinks of their animals, local farmers can provide a better understanding of what's inside.
