Make sure you only buy chicken from chicken farms that are fed organically and have never been given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores. This means they can eat both plant and animal food. Omnivorous chickens possess a digestive tract made up of a crop.
Buy only dairy products from cows that have been fed organically grown feed. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach compartment--the cow's udder--is where milk is produced.
When purchasing other types of livestock, check the label to see what percentage of the diet the animals were fed. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.
How can I tell if my produce has been certified organic?

The younger generation is however leading the charge for organic food. Millennials are twice as likely to buy organic food compared to baby boomers. Young adults aged below 35 account for 25%.

Organic food: Are they healthier and better for you?
Organic foods are produced without the use of chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. They are grown in natural environments without artificial inputs (fungicides/herbicides/hormones, antibiotics or genetic engineering). Crop rotation, cover crops and the use of compost animal manure, wastewater recycling, and integrated pest management (IPM) are some examples of organic farming.
In 2002, USDA National Organic Programs (NOP) were established to regulate the production and handling of organic products that are sold in the United States. The NOP regulations ensure that organic agricultural products are produced according to federal standards outlined in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Additionally, organic products must not contain prohibited substances like pesticide residues or genetically modified organisms.
Two types of certification programs are available in the United States for producers who wish to have their products labeled organic. One is for farmers and ranchers; one is for manufacturers. Each program requires an annual audit of operations to ensure compliance with strict standards. Many certifying agents offer this service, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers (QA International), American Grassfed Association, and Quality Assurance International. These three organizations provide third party verification of farms following strict guidelines on environmental stewardship. labour practices, and animal care.
According to the USDA's Economic Research Service, organic agriculture accounted for $4.7 billion in sales in 2013. It was a 23 percent rise in retail spending for certified organic products since 2009. Groceries sales increased by 12 per cent during this time. While there is no evidence that organic food can prevent or treat any diseases, there are some studies suggesting that eating them may improve your overall health by reducing your exposure to pesticides and other contaminants. In 2010, a review that included 31 studies concluded that organically-raised beef had lower levels of parasites and toxic chemicals than conventionally reared beef. A separate analysis of eleven studies published in 2012 led to similar conclusions.
The Environmental Working Group produced a 2014 report that compared organic and non-organic chickens, pork, beef and lamb. The group also observed that E.coliO157 is a less prevalent cause of illness in humans among children than adults. This was because the USDA has imposed stricter organic standards on animals raised for human consumption.
