Frequently Asked Questions

What are the most loved organic products?

Today organic food is the fastest-growing sector. However, we still have a lot to learn from our roots.

Organic products are the future. They are safer and more cost-effective for consumers.

However, they are also more expensive. The Organic Food Index was created to address this. We wanted to find out which foods are most popular with shoppers today, and whether these trends are changing.

These findings show that organic foods are becoming more popular. Between 2011 and 2012, the number of Americans who shop for organic food increased by almost 50%.

The USDA reported that organic production rose by 10% in the last year. Organic food now makes up 9% U.S. agriculture output.

Although organic food is gaining popularity, it appears that consumers still have to pay a premium for it. According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), average retail prices for organic food are almost double those of conventional alternatives.

The organic food sector is growing faster than other segments of the food supply. You can see that organic food has been steadily increasing since 2009.

According to OTA the volume of organic products sold at supermarkets grew by 14% in 2010 and 2011.

This is because consumers are looking for healthier foods. Organic food sales have been increasing in all age groups.

However, younger generations are leading the charge when choosing organic food. Millennials have twice the likelihood of buying organic food as baby boomers. And young adults under 35 years old account for 25% of all organic food purchases.

How can you tell whether food is organic?

Any chef will tell you fresh ingredients are more important than any other ingredient. Because we feel better when we eat well.

This is true for food as well. Organics are traceable back to the source and provenance of their products. We also know that organics were not treated with harmful chemicals.

Organic foods can be made without synthetic pesticides. These substances are forbidden for organic farmers.

Growing organic crops is an art. There are many safe ways to grow them.

Sustainable agriculture is sometimes called organic farming. It is a less resource-intensive alternative to conventional farming, but still provides enough nutrients to sustain life.

Organic farming practices include crop rotations and cover crops, manure composting, intercropping, and cover cropping. These techniques reduce soil erosion and increase water quality.

They also reduce chemical pollution of waterways. We can also find organic farms in our urban surroundings.

Two types of certification programs are available for organic products. One is certified through the USDA National Organic Program and the other by independent certifying agents. Both require strict compliance with organic standards.

Certified organic products may bear the USDA seal or the symbol O Seal, which indicates that the product meets federal requirements.

What are the benefits of organic products for skin?

Organic skincare products are free from synthetic chemicals, such as parabens and phthalates, petroleum jelly, mineral oil, petroleum jelly, propylene glycol, sodium laurylsulphate. Talc, triclosan. titanium dioxide. triethanolamine. Vitamin A palmitate.

Organic skincare products can be free of artificial colours and fragrances as well as preservatives, emulsifiers GMOs, Petrochemicals, animal testing (except for cosmetics tested on animals), pesticides hormones, antibiotics, heavy metallics and other contaminants.

They also help to preserve healthy skin and prevent premature aging.

These are some standard terms you might come across when shopping for organic items:

  • Paraben Free – These chemicals are used to preserve certain cosmetic products, but can cause serious health problems if taken in large amounts.
  • Fragrance-Free – The product does not contain essential oils or perfumes.
  • Cruelty-Free--No animals were hurt in the manufacturing process.
  • Natural Ingredients - The ingredient is derived naturally from the animal or plant.
  • Vegan/Vegetarian - the ingredients are either vegan or vegetarian.
  • Gluten-Free: This is when gluten was eliminated from the formulation.
  • Non-Toxic-The product doesn't contain any toxic chemicals, carcinogens, and/or other harmful substances that could be harmful to your health.
  • Biodegradable: The product will be discarded as harmless components.
  • Pesticide-Free - No pesticides have been used in the growing and harvesting process.
  • GMO-Free: This means that no product ingredient contains genetically engineered organisms.
  • Certified Organic is a certification that the ingredients of the recipe were grown using sustainable methods.

How can I determine if my produce was organic?

If you want to make sure that you are buying organic produce, look for these three labels:

USDA Organic Certified- This product has been certified organic by the USDA.

Certified Naturally Grown: Produce that has been grown in accordance with organic practices, but has yet to receive certification from USDA.

Pastured/Free-range - Made from animals that graze on grass and herbs outdoors.

These labels indicate that the product meets certain criteria.

  • No pesticides nor synthetic fertilizers
  • No genetically modified organisms
  • The animal is never given antibiotics
  • The animal is never given any hormones
  • No growth-promoting drug
  • No feed additives
  • No artificial ingredients
  • No irradiation
  • No sewage effluent
  • GMOs not allowed
  • Antibiotics have never been administered
  • No hormones ever given

How To

Organic foods are healthier and more nutritious.

Organic food is produced without chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. They are grown under natural conditions without artificial inputs such as fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic engineering. Organic farming practices include crop rotation and cover crops, the composting of animal manure, the recycling of wastewater, as well as integrated pest management (IPM).

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP), established in 2002 to regulate production, handling and processing of organic products sold in the United States. The NOP regulations ensure that organic agricultural products are produced according to federal standards outlined in the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Furthermore, the NOP rules require organic products to be free of banned substances such as pesticides residues and growth hormones.

The United States offers two certification programs for producers that want their products to be certified organic: one for farmers, ranchers and the other for manufacturers. Both programs require that operations are audited annually to verify compliance with the strict standards. There are several certifying organizations that offer these services. These include the CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers as well as Quality Assurance International and the American Grassfed Association. The three organizations all provide verification by third parties that farms have followed strict guidelines for environmental stewardship as well as labour practices and the care of livestock.

According to USDA's Economic Research Service in 2013, organic agriculture generated $4.7 billion in revenue. It was a 23 percent rise in retail spending for certified organic products since 2009. This period saw a 12 percent increase in grocery store sales. Spending on organic produce directly increased by 29.9%, while meat, poultry eggs, and seafood spending grew only by 1%.

While organic food may be more expensive, consumers think its superior quality justifies the higher price. Consumer Reports found that 88 per cent of respondents would be willing to pay more for organic food if the nutritional value was higher. Another study published in Health Affairs found that people who eat organic foods are less likely to suffer health problems like cancer, diabetes, obesity, asthma, heart disease, and depression.

Although organic foods are not proven to prevent or treat certain diseases, some research suggests that they could improve overall health and reduce exposure to pesticides. One example is the conclusion reached by a review of 31 studies, published in 2010, that organically reared beef was significantly less toxic than conventionally-raised beef. A separate analysis of eleven studies published in 2012 led to similar conclusions.

The Environmental Working Group's 2014 report examined data from the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Resource Center. It found that foodborne illnesses caused by E.coli, salmonella and listeria monocytogenes and verotoxin producing E.coli O157:H7 declined when organic and non-organic chickens, meat, lamb, dairy, and cheese were compared. The Environmental Working Group also found that E.coli O157 has been associated with fewer human illnesses in children and adults since 2006, when USDA began requiring stricter organic standards for animal production.
