Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference?

Organic food is made without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Organic farming practices promote soil health, water quality and animal welfare.

Inorganic foods can be grown using pesticides, chemical fertilizers and sewage sludge. Radiated foods can be treated with radiation. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created by biological engineering techniques.

Sometimes, the term "natural", is used interchangeably with "organic." Natural does not always mean organic. Natural products can also be labeled with synthetic ingredients.

Organic produce is more nutritious than traditional produce due to the fact that it contains less harmful chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers also don't use synthetic fertilizers or hormones, pesticides, or antibiotics.

What should I be looking out for when shopping organic products

USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This certifies that the product has met certain standards set by USDA. You will find the USDA Organic seal on all boxes, cartons and cans.

When shopping for meat ensure it comes only from cows that are fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants which means that they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach areas: rumen (reticulum), omasum (omasum), and abomasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.

Buy chicken from only organic chickens that have been fed 100% organic food and are not given antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. The digestive tract of an omnivorous chicken is composed of a crop and proventriculus, gizzard as well as small intestine, large intestinale, and anus.

It is important to ensure that dairy products are from cows that were fed 100% organic feed. Dairy cows have four stomach compartments, just like ruminants. The fourth stomach compartment--the cow's udder--is where milk is produced.

To find out the percent of the feed the animals received when you purchase other types livestock, be sure to read the labels. For example, pork may be labelled '95% organic.' This means 95 percent of the pig's feed came from organic sources.

Organic meat is better

If you've been paying any attention, you likely already know the answer. This is the crux of it: organic food has been growing in popularity while conventional food has fallen out of favor.

Organic foods are more appealing because they are healthier. Organic foods are safer for our bodies and help to reduce pollution.

There are many sides to this coin. Organic produce takes longer to grow and requires more resources to do so. Organic food can be more expensive than its nonorganic counterpart.

Organic meats will typically be more expensive than those that are raised in conventional conditions. However, it is possible to reduce costs without compromising on quality.

Buy locally to save money. Buy locally grown vegetables and fruits to help keep prices low. Farmers receive incentives to grow healthier crops.

You can also look for deals to reduce costs. When you purchase organics, there are often discounts.

Another way to save money? Eat less meat. Due to the cost of raising livestock, meat production can be expensive.

While there are many reasons organic food is better for our bodies as well as the planet, we must not forget the cost.

What are organic foods?

Organic produce is free from synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, sewage sludge and confinement feeding. No growth hormones are used, and there is no animal testing. These crops are allowed natural growth, so farmers don't use chemicals to kill pests and weeds.

Organic farming practices also maintain soil quality by reducing erosion and conserving water resources. In addition, organics are better for our health because they contain more nutrients than conventional food. Organic foods are often higher in fiber, lower in fat, and less calories than those produced conventionally.

Is organic food healthier?

There are two types of foods; those we grow ourselves and those we buy from someone else. While there are exceptions, the general answer is yes to both. Organic food is healthier than conventional food because it doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. It also doesn’t contain preservatives or genetically modified organisms.

You can find organic foods in supermarkets across North America. Many grocery stores now stock organic food. This makes it easier to shop organic.

Organic food has higher levels vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which makes it more delicious and nutritious. Organics are grown without using pesticides and fertilizers. They also don't pollute soil or water.

The USDA regulates organic farming practices. They require farmers to follow strict guidelines so that organic produce can be eaten safely. There are currently more than 30,000,000 acres of US farmland which have been designated organic.

As an added benefit, organic food is often much cheaper than conventional food. Consumers are paying less for the same amount of calories, protein, and nutrients. Organic farms don't have the expense of expensive chemical inputs, such as insecticides and/or fungicides. They can charge lower prices.

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), organic food actually costs 10% less per pound. You can make a change to organic food if your family is concerned about their health.

Organic food has become an increasingly popular alternative to American standard diets. It is often believed that organic food is exclusive to specialty markets and gourmet restaurants. Organic food can easily be found in any regular grocery store across the United States.

Recent years have seen a significant increase in organic food sales. In the US, organic food sales reached $43Billion in 2012, an increase of $21Billion in 2007.

How To

How to afford Organic Meat even when on a Budget

In this article, I will share my tips and tricks for buying organic meat without having to break the bank.

You will learn where to buy cheap organic meats, and what they cost per pound. You'll learn how to get the best from what you buy.

To eat well, you don't have to spend a lot. Sometimes you need to be creative in order to save money and still eat healthy. Here's my list to help you keep food costs low while still enjoying all the health benefits of organic meat.

  1. Wholesale clubs - Sams Club and Costco are great places for bulk food like chicken breasts or pork chops. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. This way you won't end up with any leftover meat. If you buy it in bulk you can freeze it so it lasts more.
  2. Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. For example, Amazon has a weekly deal called Prime Pantry, which includes free shipping on orders over $35. They offer discounts on beef roasts, ground beef, lamb steaks, and pork loins. It's simple to visit their website to view the latest offerings at different times.
  3. Local farmers often charge less than big box retailers due to the fact that they don't have large overheads for stocking their shelves. Local farmers also know exactly what their animals have eaten and drank so they can determine what's in their bodies.
  4. Look out for cuts that are the leanest. It's generally less expensive to cook lean meat than fatty. So, look for the leanest cuts. The most commonly used cuts include flank steak, tenderloin and top round steaks. These cuts have high protein and low fat.
  5. Try new recipes - Don't be afraid to try new things! Cooking with new ingredients is one of the best ways to cut your grocery bills. It's possible to create delicious meals with fresh tomatoes, onions and garlic using olive oil, spices, and garlic.
  6. Make your leftovers creative - You can make sandwiches, soups, casseroles, and other dishes with leftover meat or poultry. It's easy to make quick lunches and dinners with leftover meat.

Here you have it! These are my top tips for how to get organic meat on a tight budget. Do you have other tips? Have any other tips for me about where to buy cheap meat?
