Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best organic vegetables for you?

Organic vegetables are the most nutritious and healthy food source for humans. They are the best food on earth.

Organic produce is produced without pesticides or herbicides. These chemicals pose severe risks to our health and environment.

Organic produce contains more nutrients, vitamins and minerals. This makes them more healthy because organic produce absorbs nutrients better.

Not only do organic vegetables taste delicious, but they are also safe to eat. There are no known side effects associated with consuming organic produce.

You can find organic fruits and veggies at any grocery store. They can be labeled organic if they are grown according to USDA guidelines.

What should I be looking out for when shopping organic products

USDA-certified organic labels should be sought. This seal signifies that the product meets specific USDA standards. On all packages, boxes and cartons, look for the USDA Organic seal.

When shopping for meat ensure it comes only from cows that are fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants. They eat the whole animal. Ruminant cattle have 4 stomach compartments: Rumen, reticulum and omasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.

Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores. This means they can eat both plant and animal food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

When buying dairy products, ensure they come from cows fed 100% organically grown feed. Dairy cows have four stomach compartments, just like ruminants. The fourth stomach compartment is the udder.

If you are buying other types of livestock, make sure to check the label to determine the percentage of their diet. Pork may be labeled "95% Organic" which means that 95 percent of its feed was organic.

What is organic food?

Organic produce is produced without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. There are no growth hormones used and animal testing is not performed. These crops can naturally grow, so no chemicals are used by farmers to combat pests or weeds.

Organic farming practices also maintain soil quality by reducing erosion and conserving water resources. Organics are also better for your health as they contain more nutrients that conventional food. Organic foods are often higher in fiber, lower in fat, and less calories than those produced conventionally.

How To

What you need to know about organic foods

Organic foods are made from animals and plants without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. They are not subject to genetic engineering or the use of ionizing radioactive radiation. The food must contain no artificial ingredients, colourings, flavour enhancers, or preservatives. It cannot contain genetically modified organisms.

The term "organic", as it is commonly known, was first used by Justus von Loig in 1845. He coined the phrase "organisch", which means life-giving, to describe manure's properties. The term organic is often associated with food production. Organic means the product has only natural substances like proteins, carbohydrates, and fats that are found in nature.

The consumption of organic foods has risen dramatically in the past decades. Recent statistics show that around half of the world's population consumes at most one organic product per day. This number increases constantly and is expected to reach 70%, 80%, and 90% by 2020.

There are many reasons that organic products are chosen by consumers. Some like the taste, others prefer them because they believe organic produce is healthier, while some think organic farming is more environmentally friendly. Some consumers choose non-organic products because of ethical concerns about farm workers' and animal treatment.

Organic foods are more expensive than those made from conventional food, though prices may vary by country and region. Organic food prices are affected by many factors. The availability of suitable land for organic agriculture is one factor. Another is the cost for inputs and labour required to grow organic crops. The cost of transportation, marketing, and taxes are just a few other factors. The average European price for organic food is 10% lower than the regular price.

Below are the main differences between conventional and organic foods.

  • Organic livestock is fed a diet based on grasses and grains rather than corn and soybean meals.
