Frequently Asked Questions

What is an inorganic food?

Organic food is produced without the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides. These chemicals can be harmful for your health.

Organic food is organically grown without the use of harmful chemicals such as pesticides or herbicides. These chemicals can be harmful to both animals and people.

Inorganic foods are meats, fishes, eggs, buttermilk, cheese, yogurt and honey as well as vegetables, fruits and spices.

Organic refers specifically to the method an agricultural product has been grown. Organic farming uses natural methods to grow crops. Conventional farming uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) must set strict guidelines for organic foods. The National Organic Program Standards state that organic food must be freed from banned substances like antibiotics, growthhormones, genetically altered organisms (GMOs) and industrial solvents. Additionally, organic food must be raised without toxic chemicals, petroleum-based fertilizers, sewage sludges, or ionizing radiation.

What is organic beef?

Organic meat means real food, grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides. It also means that the animals weren't fed any genetically modified feed. It is safe to eat because it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals.

Organic meats are also better for our environment. Eating organic foods helps reduce pollution in the environment, such as rivers and lakes. Organic farmers generally don't use toxic chemicals that kill birds and insects. We help to protect wildlife.

Locally purchasing organic meats is the best way to make sure you are eating healthy and organic meats. Local purchases help keep more money within the community than traveling out of state. Local businesses often offer discounts to their customers by shopping locally. Buy local to save jobs and not send them overseas.

What are organic fruits?

Organic foods do not use pesticides, artificial fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. Organic foods contain more nutrients like vitamins A, C and E, as well as omega-3 fatty oils. These nutritious ingredients make organic foods better for our bodies, and for the planet.

Organic foods are grown using sustainable farming practices that preserve soil quality and encourage biological diversity. They are free of harmful chemicals and sewage sludge.

Although organics are most commonly associated with produce, organics can also be found in dairy, meats, poultry, eggs and baked goods.

"Organic" is defined by the USDA as crops that have been grown following strict guidelines set forth in federal government standards. Non-organic methods cannot be used by farmers to grow these foods. However, they may use approved natural pest control methods, such as crop rotation and cover cropping, and animal feed made from organic materials.

Additionally, the farmer must adhere to guidelines concerning the amount of fertilizer and pesticide that he uses during the growing seasons and how he rotates his fields among various crops. GMOs, artificial growthhormones, synthetic insecticides, and synthetic fertilizers cannot be used by farmers.

Produces labelled as 100% organic meet all requirements. But, not all farms label their produce as 100% organic. It would confuse consumers. Instead, they will label their product as "made with organic ingredients. "

What are my top priorities when buying organic products

USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This certifies that the product has met certain standards set by USDA. You will find the USDA Organic seal on all boxes, cartons and cans.

When you shop for meat, ensure that it comes from cows who are fed organic feed. Ruminants are cattle that chew their cud. Ruminant cattle are divided into four stomach compartments, the rumen and reticulum as well as the omasum and abmasum. All parts of an animal must be organically fed if the cow is going to be labelled '100% organic.'

You should only purchase chicken that has been raised organically. It must not have ever been treated with antibiotics. Omnivore chickens eat both animals and plants. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

When buying dairy products, ensure they come from cows fed 100% organically grown feed. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. The fourth stomach compartment is the udder.

Check the label when purchasing livestock of any other type to find out what percentage was used in the animal's diet. One example is pork that may be labeled '95% Organic'. This means that 95 percent came from organic sources.

Statistics

  • According to a study performed by consumerreports.org, organic products, compared to non-organic products, ranged anywhere from 13 percent cheaper to 303 percent more expensive. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • To provide the highest quality products and services to every customer, with a dedicated workforce that puts the customer first and takes the extra step to achieve 100% customer satisfaction and loyalty. (hollinsorganic.com)
  • When packaged products indicate they are “made with organic [specific ingredient or food group],” they contain at least 70% organically produced ingredients. (usda.gov)
  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)

How To

5 Reasons You Should Buy Organic Products

Organic food is grown without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. They do not contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or radioactive ingredients. Their production processes do not include sewage or industrial solvents. The food's natural environment is protected from contamination during its growth cycle. It is completely free from artificial preservatives, additives, and other harmful chemicals. It does not contain hormones or antibiotics. In addition, they are produced under conditions that allow them to retain their nutritional value and freshness for longer periods.

  1. Health benefits. Organic produce contains less chemicals than nonorganic. It's therefore less likely that it will cause allergies and other sensitivities. You also consume fewer toxic substances and carcinogens.
  2. Eco-friendliness. Produce grown without synthetic fertilizer and pesticides requires very little water. Because it takes so much energy to grow conventionally, organic farms tend to be located far away from urban areas where there's plenty of pollution. This reduces air pollution.
  3. Sustainability. Organic farming relies on soil fertility rather than chemical fertilizers; this results in healthier soils with higher levels of organic matter. It is better for soil health to rotate crops and allow the land to fallow regularly. Farm animals develop strong immune systems when they eat only grasses/grains raised without adding hormones or antibiotics.
  4. Taste. Traditional fruits and vegetables are often bland due to the fact that they are picked at peak ripeness and shipped long distances for grocery stores. Because it was picked while still unripe, organic produce is richer and more flavorful.
  5. Nutrition. GMOs and BPA can be found in many processed foods. You can avoid them by sticking with whole foods such meat, fish, eggs, seafood, seeds and beans, as well as fruits, veggies, herbs, and vegetables.
