The USDA reports that organic production increased 10% last year. 9% now comes from organic foods in the United States.

Although organic food is gaining popularity, it appears that consumers still have to pay a premium for it. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.

The organic food sector is growing faster than other segments of the food supply. If you examine the data closely, you will see that organic foods have grown steadily in consumption since 2009.

In fact, according to OTA, the volume of organic products sold in supermarkets grew by 14% between 2010 and 2011.

This is due to consumer demand for healthier food, which explains why organic foods sales are rising across all age groups.

The younger generation is however leading the charge for organic food. Millennials have twice the likelihood of buying organic food as baby boomers. 25 percent of organic food purchases are made by young adults younger than 35.


Is organic meat more nutritious?

This question is probably answered if you've been paying close attention. But here's the rub, organic food is becoming more popular while conventional food continues to fall out of favour.

Organic foods are more appealing because they are healthier. Organic foods are safer for our bodies and help to reduce pollution.

But there are two sides to this coin. Organic produce takes longer and requires more resources. Organic food is more expensive than non-organic.

Organic meats are typically higher priced than conventionally raised animals. However, it is possible to reduce costs without compromising on quality.

One way to save money is to buy locally. Locally grown fruit and vegetables help lower the price of produce, as farmers are often given incentives to grow better crops.

In this article, I will share my tips and tricks for buying organic meat without having to break the bank.

I'll give you some tips about where to find organic meats at a low price and how much it costs per pound. You'll learn how to get the best from what you buy.

It doesn't take a lot to eat healthy. Sometimes you need to be creative in order to save money and still eat healthy. Here are some ways you can cut down on food expenses while still getting the best from organic meat.

  1. Shop at wholesale clubs - Sams Club or Costco are great places to buy bulk foods such as chicken breasts and pork chops. You may be able to get large quantities of meat for as low as 50 pounds if your home is near one of these stores. This way you won't end up with any leftover meat. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
  2. Shop around online - Tons of websites sell meat at discounted prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry weekly deals, including free shipping for orders above $35 They offer discounts for beef roasts and ground beef as well as lamb steaks, lamb steaks, pork loins, and other items. It is easy to browse their website and check out what is on offer at different times.
  3. Find a local farmer - Local farmers usually charge less than big box retailers because they do not pay considerable fees to stock their shelves. Local farmers also know exactly what their animals have eaten and drank so they can determine what's in their bodies.
  4. Choose lean cuts of meat - It is usually cheaper to cook lean meat than fatty. So, look for the leanest cuts. The most popular cuts are flank steak, sirloin steak and tenderloin roast. These cuts are very low-fat and high in proteins.
