Frequently Asked Questions

Which organic vegetables are best?

Organic vegetables are the best and most nutritious food source. They are among the most nutritious foods on Earth.

Organic produce is grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and GMO seeds. These chemicals pose severe dangers to our health as well as the environment.

Organic produce also has more nutrients, vitamins minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients. They also contain more fibre, essential fatty acids, enzymes, fiber, and enzymes. Organic produce is more nutritious and healthier.

Not only do organic vegetables taste delicious, but they are also safe to eat. There are no known side effects associated with consuming organic produce.

Any grocery store can sell organic fruits and vegetables. Organic fruits and veggies can be purchased at any grocery store provided they comply with USDA guidelines.

What is inorganic food?

Organic food is not produced with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. These chemicals could cause health problems for those who eat inorganic food.

Organic food can be grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides herbicides, fungicides, and other harmful substances. These chemicals can be dangerous for both humans and animals.

Inorganic foods are meats, fishes, eggs, buttermilk, cheese, yogurt and honey as well as vegetables, fruits and spices.

Organic refers the way an agricultural product grows. Organic farming uses natural methods to grow crops. Conventional farming uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

Organic foods must comply with strict guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. According to the National Organic Program Standards all organic food must be free of banned materials such as antibiotics growth hormones genetically modified organisms GMOs, and industrial solvents. Organic food must be grown without the use of toxic chemicals or petroleum-based fertilizers.

What are natural beauty products?

Organic Beauty Products don't contain synthetic chemicals such as parabens. These ingredients are commonly found in conventional beauty products like cosmetics, shampoos, and perfumes.

Organic beauty products are also free from animal testing and do not contain any genetically modified organisms (GMO).

The USDA defines organic food as "a system which fosters cycle of resources"; it has been used for decades by the USDA to describe foods that are grown without pesticides.

Because of the damaging effects of chemical substances on our health, there has been an increase in demand for eco friendly beauty products.

These include allergies, cancer, skin irritation, hormonal imbalance, early aging, and skin irritation.

Organic beauty companies are committed to creating healthy and safe products for consumers while protecting the environment.

What are my top priorities when buying organic products

USDA-certified organic labels are recommended. This guarantees that the product meets certain USDA standards. Look for the "USDA Organic" seal on packages, boxes, cartons, cans, and jars.

When shopping for meat, ensure it comes from cows fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants. They eat the whole animal. Ruminant cattle have four stomach compartments: rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum. To be labeled '100% organic, all animal parts must be organically nourished.

Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Omnivore chickens can eat both plants as well as animals. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

Buy dairy products that are 100% organically produced. Just like ruminants, dairy cows also have four stomachs. The fourth stomach compartment, the udder, is where milk comes from.

If you are buying other types of livestock, make sure to check the label to determine the percentage of their diet. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.

Statistics

  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
  • According to a study performed by consumerreports.org, organic products, compared to non-organic products, ranged anywhere from 13 percent cheaper to 303 percent more expensive. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Cosmetic brands such as Laurel and Rose Mira are 100 percent organic and have a wide array of skincare products. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • When packaged products indicate they are “made with organic [specific ingredient or food group],” they contain at least 70% organically produced ingredients. (usda.gov)

How To

Organic foods: Are they safer and more nutritious?

Organic foods are grown without the use chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. They are grown in natural environments without artificial inputs (fungicides/herbicides/hormones, antibiotics or genetic engineering). Organic farming methods include crop rotation, cover, composting animal manure and recycling wastewater.

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP), established in 2002 to regulate production, handling and processing of organic products sold in the United States. NOP regulations ensure organic agricultural products conform to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Organic products must also be free from banned substances, such as pesticides residues, growth hormones and irradiation.

For producers in the USA who want their products "organic", there are two kinds of certification programs: one for farmers or ranchers and one for manufacturers. Both programs require an annual audit of the operations in order to confirm compliance with stringent standards. Many certifying agents offer this service, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers (QA International), American Grassfed Association, and Quality Assurance International. All three organizations provide third-party verification of farms' adherence to strict guidelines regarding environmental stewardship, labour practices, and livestock care.

According to USDA’s Economic Research Service, organic farming accounted for $4.7Billion in 2013 sales. Retail spending on certified organic products reached nearly $1.5 Billion in 2013. This is a 23 per cent increase from 2009. Sales at grocery stores were up 12 percent during this period. Spending on organic produce was up 29 percent, but only 1 percent on meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy.

Although organic food can be more expensive than regular food, many consumers feel that its quality is well worth the additional cost. Consumer Reports found that 88 per cent of respondents would be willing to pay more for organic food if the nutritional value was higher. Health Affairs also published a study showing that organic foods are less likely for people to get heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or obesity.

Although there is no evidence eating organic foods prevents or treats any diseases, some studies suggest that consuming them might improve overall health by reducing exposure to specific contaminants and pesticides. According to a 2010 review of 31 studies, organically raised beef showed significantly lower levels in toxic chemicals and parasites than conventionally produced beef. Similar results were also reached by a separate analysis of 11 2012 studies.

The Environmental Working Group's 2014 report examined data from the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Resource Center. It found that foodborne illnesses caused by E.coli, salmonella and listeria monocytogenes and verotoxin producing E.coli O157:H7 declined when organic and non-organic chickens, meat, lamb, dairy, and cheese were compared. The Environmental Working Group also found that E.coli O157 has been associated with fewer human illnesses in children and adults since 2006, when USDA began requiring stricter organic standards for animal production.
