Frequently Asked Questions

Do organic foods offer health benefits?

While organic foods may not be suitable for everyone's health, they are healthy for some people. There are certain health benefits to those who consume organic foods regularly.

Organic food is free from artificial fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides as well as hormones, antibiotics and genetic engineering. Organic produce is free from harmful chemicals that could cause harm to human health.

Organic products also have fewer additives. Organic products are more nutritious than those made from non-organic ingredients.

Research shows that organic produce contains more nutrients and antioxidants compared to conventionally grown fruit and vegetables.

Although organic farming methods tend to cost more than conventional farming methods, they often yield better results. Organic farming promotes soil fertility as well as biodiversity.

This helps to prevent erosion and conserve water resources. Plus, because organic farms aren't treated with toxic chemicals, these farms typically require less energy and fuel.

People worry that organic foods will be more expensive than those made from conventional food. However, prices can vary depending upon where you live. Organic apples, on the other hand, tend to be more expensive that conventional apples.

If you take a look at the cost of a basket containing both types of fruits, you will see that organic is less expensive.

So, should you buy organic?

It all depends upon who you are. If organic food doesn't appeal to you, you shouldn't bother.

You can still buy organic food if your preference is for good tasting food. Organic food is safer than traditional commercial produce, as they are not subject to chemical pesticides, chemical fertilizers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Organic agriculture preserves our environment by conserving natural resource and encouraging biodiversity.

What's the difference between organic foods and inorganic food?

Organic food does not contain pesticides, chemical fertilisers, sewage waste, irradiation, genetic modification. Organic farming practices improve soil health and water quality as well as animal welfare.

Inorganic foods are produced using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and sewage effluent. Radiated foods can be treated with radiation. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created by biological engineering techniques.

Sometimes, the term "natural", is used interchangeably with "organic." Natural does not always mean organic. You may also find products that are labeled as "natural", which could contain synthetic ingredients.

Organic produce is more nutritious than traditional produce due to the fact that it contains less harmful chemicals and pesticides. Organic farmers don't use any artificial fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics.

Why is organic produce important?

Organic produce is vital for our health. It's the best method to ensure you eat healthy foods. It's better for us and more sustainable because it doesn’t depend on pesticides or fertilizers.

Organic farming uses natural methods for growing crops without using harmful chemicals. Organic farming is safer for animals and humans because it produces fewer pollutants. You are helping the planet and yourself by choosing organic food.

However, organic food is good for our health. We all know the negative effects that processed foods can have on our health. However, organic fruits & vegetables aren’t treated with chemical sprays. They taste fresher, look better and last longer.

This is why organic food is so important. Because organic is healthier for you as well as for the world.

What are my top priorities when buying organic products

Look for USDA-certified organic labels. This certifies that the product has met certain standards set by USDA. You will find the USDA Organic seal on all boxes, cartons and cans.

When buying meat, make sure it is from organically fed cows. Cattle are ruminants. This means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle can be found with four stomach compartments: the rumen, the reticulum, omasum, abomasum and omasum. If the cow is to be labeled "100% organic", all of its parts must have been organically fed.

Make sure you only buy chicken from chicken farms that are fed organically and have never been given antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

Buy dairy products that are 100% organically produced. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.

To find out the percent of the feed the animals received when you purchase other types livestock, be sure to read the labels. One example is pork that may be labeled '95% Organic'. This means that 95 percent came from organic sources.

Is organic a guarantee that the product is pesticide-free

Organic food is free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers. This means organic food is free from pesticides and fertilizers.

Organic produce also contains more nutrients than conventionally produced foods because it contains no harmful additives.

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) requires farmers to follow strict guidelines for growing crops certified as organic.

These guidelines cover soil preparation, crop rotation and pest control. They also include water conservation and harvesting techniques.

Organic farming methods also benefit wildlife and natural environments.

Statistics

  • As for organic meat, regulations require that animals be raised in living conditions that accommodate their natural behaviours (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones. (usda.gov)
  • When packaged products indicate they are “made with organic [specific ingredient or food group],” they contain at least 70% organically produced ingredients. (usda.gov)
  • Cosmetic brands such as Laurel and Rose Mira are 100 percent organic and have a wide array of skincare products. (en.wikipedia.org)
  • Once certified by the USDA, it can fall into one of four categories: "100 percent organic", "organic," "made with organic ingredients," or "made with less than 70 percent organic ingredients. (en.wikipedia.org)

How To

What happens to your body when you switch to organic products?

Organic products are grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic manipulation. They come only from natural sources of water and free-range animals. The term "organic", which means they don't contain additives or chemicals, refers to their non-containing any. This product was produced by nature and therefore contains no harmful substances.

The term "natural" refers to how food is grown. It is usually used to describe foods that haven't been processed into their final form (e.g., fruits). Natural foods are often more fresh than others, because they haven’t been processed with heat, radiation or chemical preservations. Some people think natural does not necessarily mean healthy. Many experts say there isn't much difference between conventional and organic foods. Both types of food are tested for safety, quality, and purity. Organic produce has less pesticide residues and pollutant than conventionally grown food.

Most grocery stores now carry organic meats and poultry. If you are looking for organic meat, poultry and eggs, check with your local grocery store. Some companies only sell organic products, while others offer separate sections. Look for USDA Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Biodynamic Association Certified, Rainforest Alliance Certified, etc.

These products should not be consumed if you are pregnant. Unborn babies and infants can be exposed to pesticides.
