Eating a healthy diet is the best way to protect your health. Choose foods that are high in nutrients, like fruits, vegetables, legumes and low-fat dairy.
Many people choose organic fruits and vegetables for their nutritional value. Studies suggest that organic foods contain more vitamins and antioxidants. (1)
Essential Nutrients
Organic fruits and vegetables can provide 6 essential nutrients that are important to your overall health. They include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. These are called macronutrients, which are needed in large amounts. Micronutrients are needed in smaller amounts, but they are still important.
Carbohydrates provide your body with energy. They are found in fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes. Proteins are a building block of the human body and are in foods like meat, fish and dairy products. Proteins also provide your body with amino acids.
Minerals are non-protein, inorganic chemical elements that are vital to life. They are carbon, hydrogen and oxygen; nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium; magnesium, calcium, sulfur and iron.
Whether you choose to buy organic produce or not, it’s important to consume a variety of fruits and vegetables daily. It’s a simple way to reduce your risk of heart disease and other lifestyle diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and some cancers.
Better Taste
In general, organic foods taste better because they are grown naturally and do not contain chemicals. The soil used for growing organic produce is rich and nourished, which contributes to the flavor of the fruits and vegetables. Organic produce also maintains its sense of freshness and has a more vibrant color than non-organic produce.
When choosing your fruit and veggies, try to purchase as much organic food as possible. However, we understand that purchasing all organic produce is not always feasible for everyone. If you can’t purchase all organic, try buying the foods that have the most pesticide residue, such as blueberries, spinach, strawberries and apples. Also, be sure to buy organic meat and dairy products, as these foods are often pumped with hormones and antibiotics.
Better Health
A number of studies have shown that organic produce has higher levels of certain vitamins and minerals than conventionally grown foods. This is due to the fact that organic farming practices do not allow the use of synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge or pesticides. Instead, natural methods of fertilizing the soil and controlling weeds (such as crop rotation) and pests (such as hand weeding, mulching and tilling) are used to maintain healthy crops.
Many people choose to purchase organic vegetables and fruits for health reasons, including wanting to avoid harmful chemicals in their food. But buying only organic fruits and veggies can be expensive, so make sure you're budgeting for them.
Another way to save money while eating healthier is to purchase frozen organic vegetables. They contain the same nutrients as fresh produce and are often cheaper than non-organic versions. Also, try to buy fruits and veggies in season when they are cheapest. This will help reduce your grocery bill and reduce food waste.
Environmentally Friendly
Choosing organic foods is a way to help support healthy soil and natural ecosystems. Organic farming practices prohibit the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. Chemicals sprayed on non-organic crops can leach into the ground and water, polluting rivers and streams with toxic runoff. This contaminates drinking water and leads to the formation of dead zones in the ocean, caused by an overabundance of nitrogen and phosphorous that creates algae that consumes oxygen and kills marine life.
Prioritize buying organic foods with thick skins, such as berries, greens, tomatoes and potatoes, to minimize your exposure to pesticide residue. Foods that have a thin skin, such as apples, peaches and nectarines, may be less important to purchase organic, especially if they are already very low in pesticides (see Environmental Working Group’s “Dirty Dozen” and “Clean Fifteen”). Look for foods labeled 100% organic or made with organic ingredients, which must contain at least 70% organic fruits and vegetables.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is organic a guarantee that the product is pesticide-free
Organic food is naturally chemical-free and grows without pesticides. This means there is little or no exposure to chemicals such as fertilizers and herbicides.
Because organic produce does not contain harmful additives it has more nutrients that conventionally produced foods.
The USDA National Organic Program, (NOP), requires farmers to adhere to strict guidelines when cultivating organic crops.
These guidelines address soil preparation, crop rotations, pest control, water conservation, harvesting, and other practices.
Organic farming techniques also contribute to healthy ecosystems that benefit wildlife as well as natural habitats.
Is organic food healthier?
There are two types: foods that we grow and those that we purchase from others. While there are exceptions, the general answer is yes to both. Organic food is safer because it does not contain any harmful chemicals.
There are many supermarkets that sell organic food across North America and Europe. Organic food can now be found in many grocery stores making it easier for shoppers to choose organic products.
Organic food is also better tasting and more nutritious because it contains higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Organics are grown without using pesticides and fertilizers. They also don't pollute soil or water.
The USDA regulates organic farming practices. They require farmers to follow strict guidelines so that organic produce can be eaten safely. There are over 30 million acres of US organic farmland.
Organic food is often cheaper than traditional food. Organic food is often cheaper than conventional food because it contains the same amount calories, protein, as well as nutrients. Organic farms can charge lower prices for their crops since they aren't required to pay for expensive chemical inputs such as insecticides or fungicides.
According to the Environmental Working Group organic food is 10 percent cheaper per pound than conventionally manufactured food. Switching to organic food is a smart move if you care about your health and that of your family.
Organic food is becoming a popular option to the standard American diet. Although many may think that organic food is only available at specialty markets and gourmet restaurants, this isn't true. Organic food can easily be found in any regular grocery store across the United States.
The sales of organic food have increased dramatically in recent years. In the US, organic food sales reached $43Billion in 2012, an increase of $21Billion in 2007.
What is organic?
Organic meat is food that has not been treated with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Organic meat is also a guarantee that the animals weren’t fed any genetically altered feed. This makes it safe for human consumption because there aren't any harmful chemicals in the meat.
Organic meats are also healthier for the environment. We reduce the amount of pollution in our rivers, lakes, and landfills by eating organic food. We also help protect wildlife because organic farmers usually do not use toxic chemicals that kill insects and birds.
The best way to ensure that you eat healthy organic meats is to buy them locally whenever possible. Local purchasing helps keep money local, not out of the state. Local businesses often pass along savings to customers when shopping locally. Local businesses are more likely to keep jobs here than export them abroad.

How To
How to get Organic Meat on a budget
Here are some tips and tricks that will help you save money on organic meat.
You will learn where to buy cheap organic meats, and what they cost per pound. You'll learn how to get the best from what you buy.
You don't need to spend a lot of money to eat healthily. Sometimes creativity is required to make money while still eating healthy. Here's my list to help you keep food costs low while still enjoying all the health benefits of organic meat.
- Buy bulk food at wholesale clubs. Sams Club and Costco both offer great options for buying bulk foods like pork chops and chicken breasts. If you're lucky enough to live near one of these stores, you can often get deals on large quantities of meat (up to 50 pounds). You won't have to waste meat. Also, if you buy in bulk, it can be frozen so it lasts for longer.
- You can shop online for meat at great prices. For example, Amazon has a weekly deal called Prime Pantry, which includes free shipping on orders over $35. They offer discounts on beef roasts, ground beef, lamb steaks, and pork loins. It's easy to browse their website and see what's available at different times.
- Find a local farmer - Local farmers usually charge less than big box retailers because they do not pay considerable fees to stock their shelves. Because they know exactly the diets and drinks of their animals, local farmers can provide a better understanding of what's inside.
- Look for lean cuts of meat. Fatty meats are generally more expensive to cook. So, look for the leanest cuts. These include sirloin, tenderloin, top round, flank, and top-round steaks. These cuts are high in protein and low in fat.
- Try new recipes - Don't be afraid to try new things! You can cut down on your grocery costs by starting to cook with ingredients you don't have before. You might be amazed at the delicious recipes you can create with fresh tomatoes and onions, garlic, olive oils, and spices.
- Make your leftovers creative - You can make sandwiches, soups, casseroles, and other dishes with leftover meat or poultry. For quick lunches, leftover meat can be used to make dinners.
Here you have it! So there you have it! My list of tips for getting organic meat without breaking the bank. Are there any other tips you can share? Are you able to give me any tips on how to get cheap meat?
