Muscle strength is important for everyday functioning as well as helping you stay active and healthy. To build muscle, it's essential to eat a diet that includes protein-rich organic foods.
Try shopping for organic vegetables at a local farmers' market or online. You'll find that they are often cheaper and fresher than what you'd find at a conventional grocery store.
Protein
While targeted exercises and gradual overloading of muscles indeed increase their size, lean muscle mass only grows in the gym if you have the fuel to support it. Protein—the nutrient made of amino acids—is the key to reversing muscle damage, repairing and building tissue, and ensuring you have enough strength for your next workout.
Eggs are rich in protein and a variety of nutrients including zinc, selenium, and vitamins A and E. They are also easy to prepare, making them a convenient post-workout option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Other organic foods rich in protein include yoghurt, lentils, tofu, tempeh, and chia seeds. Many of these are also good sources of carbohydrate, which is essential for energy production and recovery. Carbohydrates also stimulate insulin—a hormone that helps build muscle. Hence, incorporating them into your meals is important for a well-rounded diet. You can also opt for protein supplements to help meet your protein needs, especially if you’re not getting enough in your regular diet.
Carbohydrates
Although protein is critical to muscle growth, you also need carbohydrates to fuel your workouts. The body partially converts carbohydrates into glycogen, a form of energy that helps power resistance training exercises. Carbohydrates come from many foods, but health experts recommend consuming complex carbohydrate sources that provide dietary fiber and nutrients, such as whole grains, beans, fruit and vegetables.
A recent study found that the 15 g/h carbohydrate group achieved significantly more reps on bench press and bent-over row compared to placebo, though there was no dose response effect for biceps curl. However, this study was not randomized and counterbalanced, which means the results may have been due to a possible order/familiarity effect rather than the carbohydrate intake.
Bananas replenish carbohydrates burned for fuel during exercise and also provide potassium, an important electrolyte lost in sweat. Half a cup of bananas provides around 16 grams of carbohydrates and is a good post-workout recovery food. Almonds, meanwhile, are loaded with protein and potassium and contain vitamin E, which can help muscles recover from a hard workout.
Fats
The fats in organic foods play a crucial role in promoting muscular strength and faster recovery. These fats help to provide energy and support muscle protein synthesis. Those who want to build strong muscles should consume a variety of these foods on a regular basis.
Eggs are high in both protein and healthy fats and are a great post-workout food for building muscles. In addition to protein, eggs contain choline and B vitamins which are important for protein synthesis. Eggs are also a good source of the amino acid leucine, which stimulates muscle growth.
Another good post-workout food for muscle building is fish. Salmon and tuna are rich in heart-healthy omega 3 fatty acids, as well as protein, which is essential for muscle synthesis and recovery. Fish is also rich in vitamin D and calcium, which are both important for bone health.
Vitamins and Minerals
As you exercise regularly, your body needs a wide variety of vitamins and minerals to counteract wear and tear. You can find these nutrients in a well-rounded diet of meats, vegetables and healthy fats, but it's also possible to add them to your meals as supplements.
Vitamin C, for example, is essential for a strong immune system but it's also known to make the muscles more resilient against injury. You can get a great dose of this vitamin in citrus fruits, berries, blackcurrants, oranges and kiwis.
Magnesium is another important mineral for promoting muscular strength and faster recovery. It helps your muscles to relax and reduces pain caused by training, and it increases protein synthesis. You can find this nutrient in dairy products, green leafy vegetables, seeds and nuts. Potassium is a popular ingredient in sports drinks because it's an electrolyte that helps your muscles contract properly and keeps your hydration levels balanced. It's also available in whole foods, like bananas and pistachios.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should you buy organic?
Conventional agriculture has been linked with many health problems including asthma, allergies. It is important to make informed choices about food purchases.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) offers the following tips on how to pick "cleaner" food:
Always purchase organic fruits, vegetables and other products whenever possible.
USDA organic labels should be used on meat, poultry and eggs as well as milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, honey, and other dairy products.
Avoid processed foods that claim to be "natural" and "no additives."
Be sure to read all ingredient labels. If an ingredient is not listed, it can be added during processing.
Choose fresh meats over frozen or canned ones. Many frozen and canned foods contain less nutrients, like high fructose Corn Syrup.
What are organic foods?
Organic produce is grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, irradiation, genetic engineering, or confinement feeding. No growth hormones or animal testing are done. These crops are allowed to grow naturally, so farmers do not use chemicals to prevent weeds or pests.
Organic farming methods also help to preserve soil quality, reduce erosion, and conserve water resources. Organics have more nutrients than traditional food, which makes them better for our health. Organic foods are often higher in fiber, lower in fat, and less calories than those produced conventionally.
What is organic meat?
Organic meat refers to real food grown without the use artificial fertilizers, pesticides, or hormones. Organic meat also indicates that animals were not fed genetically modified food. It is safe to eat because it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals.
Organic meats are better for the environment. When we eat organic foods, we reduce the pollution in landfills, rivers, lakes, etc. We also help protect wildlife because organic farmers usually do not use toxic chemicals that kill insects and birds.
Buy organic meats whenever possible. This is the best way for you to eat healthy, organic meats. Buying local helps keep more money circulating within the community rather than going out of state. Local businesses often pass along savings to customers when shopping locally. Buy local to save jobs and not send them overseas.

Here are some tips to help you find low-cost organic meats. Also, how much per pound they cost. This will teach you how to get the most out of your purchase.
For healthy eating, you don’t have to spend a lot. Sometimes, you have to use your creativity to save money while still eating well. Here's my list to help you keep food costs low while still enjoying all the health benefits of organic meat.
- Buy at wholesale clubs - Costco and Sams Club are great places to shop for bulk foods like chicken breasts and pork chops. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. You won't have to waste meat. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
- Look online to save money on meat. Amazon offers Prime Pantry, a weekly deal with free shipping on orders above $35. You can get discounts on ground beef, beef roasts, lamb steaks and pork loins. You can browse their website and view what's on sale at different times.
- Look for a local farmer. They usually charge less than big-box retailers, as they don't have to pay large stocking fees. They also know what their animals ate and drink so they can tell exactly what is inside.
- Look for lean cuts of meat. Fatty meats are generally more expensive to cook. Therefore, choose the leanest cuts. The most common ones are sirloin steak, tenderloin roast, top round steak, and flank steak. These cuts are very low-fat and high in proteins.
- You don't have to be afraid to try new recipes. One of the easiest ways to reduce your grocery bill is to start cooking meals with ingredients you haven't used before. You may be amazed at the variety of delicious dishes that you can make with fresh tomatoes, onions garlic, olive oil and spices.
- Remaining meat and poultry can be used for sandwiches, salads or soups. You can make quick meals or lunches from leftover meat.
