Frequently Asked Questions

What should I look out for when buying organic products?

USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This certification means that the product is certified organic by USDA. On packages, boxes, cartons or cans, look out for the USDA Organic seal.

When shopping for meat ensure it comes only from cows that are fed 100% organic feed. Cattle are ruminants, which means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach compartments: rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum. All parts of an animal must be organically fed if the cow is going to be labelled '100% organic.'

Chicken should be only purchased from chickens raised on organic feed, and not given antibiotics. Omnivore chickens eat both animals and plants. The digestive tract of an omnivorous chicken is composed of a crop and proventriculus, gizzard as well as small intestine, large intestinale, and anus.

You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Just like ruminants have four stomachs, dairy cows have four. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.

When purchasing other types of livestock, check the label to see what percentage of the diet the animals were fed. A label for pork might say "95% organic", which means that 95% of the feed used by the pork came from organic sources.

What is inorganic foods?

Organic food is not produced with pesticides or artificial fertilizers. These chemicals may be harmful to your health and can also be found in non-organic foods.

Organic food is organically grown without the use of harmful chemicals such as pesticides or herbicides. These chemicals can cause harm to animals and humans.

Inorganic food is meat, fish, eggs and dairy products, including butter, yogurts honey, yogurts, butter, cream, cheese, butter, yogurts, honey and grains.

The way that an agricultural product is grown organically is what the term means. Organic farming, for example, uses natural methods and soil amendments in order to grow crops. Conventional farming, however, uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines must be followed when organic food is labeled. According to the National Organic Program Standards, all certified organic food must be free from prohibited materials such as antibiotics, growth hormones, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and industrial solvents. Organic food must not contain toxic chemicals, petroleum-based fertilizers or sewage sludges.

Are organic foods better for us?

According to the Environmental Working Group's latest report on pesticide residues in foods, organic fruits and vegetables had nearly half the level of pesticides compared with non-organic versions. Organic strawberries contained four times more pesticides that their conventional counterparts, and organic apples contained eight percent less.

Studies have also shown that organic foods reduce the risk of mercury and lead poisoning. One study revealed that children who ate organic meat had 33 per cent lower blood lead levels than their counterparts who didn't eat organic meats. Another study concluded conventional fish consumption should be stopped by pregnant women because it contains high levels of mercury.

Overall, organic food does seem to be safer than its non-organic counterpart. Experts recommend that you choose fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible to lower your chance of developing cancer or other diseases.

What are organic beauty products?

Organic Beauty Products contain natural ingredients without artificial chemicals, such as parabens and phenoxyethanol. These ingredients are common in cosmetics such as shampoos, perfumes, and cosmetics.

Organic beauty products are also free from animal testing and do not contain any genetically modified organisms (GMO).

The USDA defines organic as "a system for production that fosters recycling of resources". It has been used over the years to describe foods grown without pesticides.

Because of the damaging effects of chemical substances on our health, there has been an increase in demand for eco friendly beauty products.

These include cancer, allergies, skin irritation, hormonal imbalance, and premature aging.

Organic beauty companies believe in creating safe and healthy products while protecting the planet.

Why is organic food important

For our health, organic produce is crucial. It's the best method to ensure you eat healthy foods. It's healthier for us as well as more environmentally-friendly because it doesn’t rely on pesticides, fertilizers, or other chemicals.

Organic farming is a natural method of growing crops that uses no harmful chemicals. This reduces the risk of environmental pollution, which makes it safer for people and animals. When you choose organic food, both you and the earth are protected.

The health benefits of organic foods go well beyond our bodies. We all know how bad processed food can make us feel. Did you know that organic fruits and veggies aren't subject to chemical spray? That means that they taste fresher, look brighter and last longer too.

Because of this, organic foods are so important. Because organic is healthier for you as well as for the world.

What are the top organic products?

Today, organic food is the fastest growing industry. But even though we've come a long way from our roots, there is still much room for growth.

Organic products will be the future. They are safer and more cost-effective for consumers.

They are also generally more expensive. That's why we created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to see which foods are most in demand today and how these trends are changing.

The results show that organic food is becoming increasingly popular. Between 2011 and 2012 the number of Americans buying organic food increased nearly 50%.

The USDA reported that organic production rose by 10% in the last year. Organic food now makes up 9% U.S. agriculture output.

Although organic food is gaining popularity, it appears that consumers still have to pay a premium for it. According to the Organic Trade Association OTA, organic food retail prices are about twice those of conventional products.

That said, organic food is growing faster than any other segment of the food sector. If you look closely at the data, it will be apparent that organic food consumption has steadily increased since 2009.

According to OTA however, the volume in supermarkets of organic products grew by 14% from 2010 to 2011.

This increase is due to consumers' demand for healthier foods. It is why organic food sales are growing across all ages.

However, the younger generation is leading the charge in choosing organic food. Millennials are twice as likely to buy organic food compared to baby boomers. The 25% of organic food purchase made by younger adults below 35 are made up of young adults.

Is organic meat healthier?

If you've been paying any attention, you likely already know the answer. But here's the rub, organic food is becoming more popular while conventional food continues to fall out of favour.

Organic foods are becoming more popular because they are better for us. In addition to being safer for our health, organic products also help the environment by reducing pollution and waste.

There are two sides to the coin. Organic produce takes longer and requires more resources. This means that organic food costs more money than its non-organic counterpart.

Organic meats tend to be more expensive than those raised conventionally. There are however ways to lower these costs without sacrificing the quality of organic meats.

Local purchases can help you save money. Buying locally grown fruits and vegetables helps keep prices low because farmers receive incentives to grow healthy crops.

Look for bargains to cut down on costs. Many organic products can be purchased at a discount.

Finally, another way to save money is by eating less meat. The feed required to raise cattle can make meat production expensive.

While there are many reasons organic food is better for our bodies as well as the planet, we must not forget the cost.

How To

What happens to the body when you switch over to organic products

Organic products can be grown without synthetic fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They come only from natural sources of water and free-range animals. Organic products are those that do not contain chemicals or other additives. This product was naturally produced and contains no harmful chemicals.

The term "natural" refers how food is grown. This term is often used to refer to foods that are not processed into final forms (such as fruits). Natural foods are more fresh than other foods because they have not been subject to heat, radiation or chemical preservatives. Natural doesn't necessarily have to be healthy, however. Experts say that there aren't many differences between organic and conventional food. Both types can be tested for safety and quality. But organic produce has fewer pollutants and pesticide residues than conventionally grown produce.

Most grocery stores offer organic options. For organic meats, poultry, eggs and seafood, you should check with your local supermarket. Some companies sell only organic products; others have separate sections for them. You should look for USDA Certified Organic, Non GMO Project Verified (Biodynamic Association Certified), Rainforest Alliance Certified, and other certifications.

These foods should be avoided by women who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Pesticides can harm unborn infants and babies.
