What are organic foods?
Organic produce is produced without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. There are no growth hormones used and animal testing is not performed. These crops can grow naturally so that farmers don't have to use pesticides or weed control.
Organic farming practices can also preserve soil quality by reducing erosion, and conserving water resources. Organic foods are healthier than conventional foods because they have more nutrients. Organic products are more nutritious than conventionally grown foods and have lower calories and fiber.
Is organic meat healthier?
If you've been paying any attention, you likely already know the answer. However, the truth is organic food is gaining popularity at a time when conventional food is falling out of favor.
Organic foods continue to be popular because they offer a healthier alternative. Organic products are not only safer for our health but also reduce pollution and waste.
However, there are also two sides to this coin. Organic produce takes more time to grow and requires greater resources. Organic food can be more expensive than its nonorganic counterpart.
Organic meats are generally more expensive than conventionally raised animals. However, it is possible to reduce costs without compromising on quality.
One way to save money is to buy locally. Locally grown produce helps to keep the prices down because farmers are given incentives to grow healthy crops.
Another way to cut costs is to look for deals. There are often discounts offered when purchasing organics.
Finally, another way to save money is by eating less meat. Due to the cost of raising livestock, meat production can be expensive.
While there are many reasons organic food is better for our bodies as well as the planet, we must not forget the cost.
Is organic food better for us?
According to the Environmental Working Group’s latest report on pesticide residues, organic fruits/vegetables had nearly half as many pesticides than non-organic. They found that organic apples contained eight times fewer pesticides than non-organic apples, while organic strawberries were four times cleaner than their conventional counterparts.
Another study suggests that organic food can reduce exposure to toxic metals such as lead and mercury. For instance, one study showed that children who consumed organic meat had 33% less blood lead levels than children who did not. Another study concluded conventional fish consumption should be stopped by pregnant women because it contains high levels of mercury.
Organic food is generally safer than non-organic. Experts recommend that you choose fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible to lower your chance of developing cancer or other diseases.

How To
Five Reasons to Purchase Organic Products
Organic foods are free from pesticides and synthetic fertilisers. They are free from genetically modified organisms and irradiated substances. Their production methods do not involve sewage sludge or industrial solvents. During the course of its growth cycle, the natural environment of the food is protected from contamination. It does not contain artificial preservatives or additives. It does not contain hormones or antibiotics. They are also grown in conditions that ensure they retain their nutritional value for longer periods of time.
- Health benefits. Organic produce contains fewer chemicals than nonorganic produce. It's therefore less likely that it will cause allergies and other sensitivities. It also means that you consume less toxic chemicals and carcinogens.
- Eco-friendliness. Organically grown produce doesn't require synthetic fertilizer or pesticides. Organic farms are located far from cities where there is a lot of pollution, because they require so much energy to grow. This helps to reduce the amount of air pollution.
- Sustainability. Organic farming relies on soil fertility rather than chemical fertilizers; this results in healthier soils with higher levels of organic matter. Farmers should rotate crops and let the land go bare periodically to improve soil health. Farm animals develop strong immune systems when they eat only grasses/grains raised without adding hormones or antibiotics.
- Taste. The taste of conventional fruits and veggies is often bland. This is because they are picked at the peak of ripeness. They then get shipped long distances to their destination. Organic produce is sweeter and richer because it was harvested at the peak of its ripeness.
- Nutrition. GMOs are harmful chemicals found in many conventional processed foods. Avoid these harmful chemicals by eating whole foods, such as meat, eggs and fish, seeds, legumes, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and beans.
