Frequently Asked Questions

What are organic fruits?

Organic food does not contain pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Organic foods contain more nutrients like vitamins A, C and E, as well as omega-3 fatty oils. These healthy ingredients make organic food better for our bodies and the planet.

Organic foods are produced using sustainable agricultural practices that protect soil quality and promote biological diversity. They are free of harmful chemicals and sewage sludge.

Although organics are most commonly associated with produce, organics can also be found in dairy, meats, poultry, eggs and baked goods.

The USDA defines organic as crops grown in accordance with strict federal regulations. These foods cannot be grown by farmers using conventional methods. They may however use approved natural pest management methods like crop rotation or cover cropping as well as organic feeds.

Additionally, the farmer must adhere to guidelines concerning the amount of fertilizer and pesticide that he uses during the growing seasons and how he rotates his fields among various crops. GMOs, artificial growth hormones, synthetic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are not allowed in the fields of farmers.

The requirements for organic fruits and vegetables are met if they are labeled 100 percent organic. But not all farms will label their products 100% organic. That would confuse consumers. They will instead label their product "made with organic ingredients." "

Why should I go organic?

Conventional agriculture has been linked to several health problems, including asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes, cancer, birth defects, hormone imbalances, and other diseases. Healthy choices must be made when purchasing food.

The Environmental Working Group has the following tips for choosing "cleaner" food.

As much as possible, purchase organic fruits or vegetables

USDA organic labels are required for meat, poultry, eggs and milk.

Avoid processed foods that are labeled "natural" or "no added ingredients."

Be sure to read all ingredient labels. If an ingredient isn’t listed, it might be added during processing.

Fresh meats are better than canned or frozen. Foods that are frozen or canned often have less nutritionally-rich ingredients, such as high fructosecorn syrup.

What is organic food?

Organic food is grown without pesticides and artificial fertilizers. These chemicals can cause health problems in organic foods.

Organic food can be grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides herbicides, fungicides, and other harmful substances. These chemicals can be dangerous for both humans and animals.

Inorganic food includes meat, fish, eggs, milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, honey, grains, vegetables, fruits, spices, and herbs.

Organic refers to how an agricultural product was grown. Organic farming uses natural methods to grow crops. Conventional farming uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), must ensure that organic food meets strict standards. According to the National Organic Program Standards all organic food must be free of banned materials such as antibiotics growth hormones genetically modified organisms GMOs, and industrial solvents. Organic food must not be produced with toxic chemicals, petroleum or sewage sludges or ionizing radioactive substances.

What are some organic skin products?

Organic skincare products do not contain synthetic chemicals like parabens, phthalates, mineral oils, petroleum jelly or petrolatum.

Organic skincare products can be free of artificial colours and fragrances as well as preservatives, emulsifiers GMOs, Petrochemicals, animal testing (except for cosmetics tested on animals), pesticides hormones, antibiotics, heavy metallics and other contaminants.

They also help to preserve healthy skin and prevent premature aging.

How To

What you should know about organic food

Organic foods are made from animals and plants without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. They are not subject to genetic engineering or the use of ionizing radioactive radiation. Food must not contain artificial colours, flavour enhancers or preservatives. It should not include genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

The term "organic", as it is commonly known, was first used by Justus von Loig in 1845. He coined the phrase "organisch", which means life-giving, to describe manure's properties. The term organic is often associated with food production. Organic refers to products that only contain naturally occurring substances, such as carbohydrates, proteins, and minerals, which are all found in nature.

The consumption of organic foods has risen dramatically in the past decades. According to recent statistics, around 50% of the world's population consumes at least one organic product daily. This number increases constantly and is expected to reach 70%, 80%, and 90% by 2020.

There are many reasons that organic products are chosen by consumers. Some consumers prefer organic products for the taste. Other people prefer them because organic produce is more nutritious. Still others believe organic farming is better for the environment. But, non-organic products can be a good choice because there are ethical concerns over the treatment and welfare of farm workers.

Although organic foods tend to be more expensive than regular ones, prices can vary depending on where they are located. Organic food prices are affected by many factors. One is the availability and cost of land that can be used for organic agriculture. Another factor is the price of inputs as well as labour for organic farming. Other factors include transportation costs, marketing costs, and taxes. In Europe, for example, organic food prices are 10% more than regular food.

These are the main differences in organic and conventional food.

  • Organic produce does not contain any chemicals, hormones or antibiotics.
  • Organic livestock is fed grasses & grains, not corn and soybean meal.
  • Organic milk comes from cows fed only grasses and hay.
  • All raw materials used for organic manufacturing are certified organic.
  • Organic fruits or vegetables should not be grown in pesticide- or other harmful chemical environments.
  • Organic meat, poultry and seafood are not subject to radiation.
  • You should soak raw nuts and seeds before you use them.
  • Only healthy oils are used in organic cooking.
  • Organic eggs have been laid by hens and given access to outdoor areas.
  • Honey is extracted using traditional methods by bees.
  • Organic chocolate uses sugar and beans that have been grown and processed organically.
  • Organic wines don't contain chemical additives.
  • The plants used to make organic tea are hand-picked.
  • Organic cotton is not treated with pesticides.
  • Organic cereals and flours contain no preservatives, artificial colours, or flavours.
