Discover the Superior Nutritional Profile of GrassFed Beef




In contrast to grain-fed beef, grass fed meat contains significantly more antioxidant vitamins and less unhealthy fat. This includes a high amount of the B vitamins and Vitamin E as well as Omega-3 fatty acids and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA).

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Grass fed cattle have been shown to have higher levels of the healthy omega-3 fats EPA and DHA. These omega-3 fatty acids have been associated with reduced risk of heart disease.

Likewise, grass-finished cattle have been shown to have higher levels of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), a fatty acid with powerful anti-cancer and anti-obesity properties. Grass fed beef also contains more of the beneficial long-chain saturated fats arachidate, behenate and nonadecanoate than conventional grain finished meats.

The short-chain fatty acid oleic acid, which is found in high amounts in conventional grain-fed meats, was significantly lower in grass finished cattle. Grass-finished beef also had higher levels of the healthier monounsaturated fats stearic and palmitic acids. Additionally, grass-finished beef was found to contain elevated levels of ascorbate (vitamin C) compounds that are important for human health. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps reduce oxidative stress in animals and humans, as well as having anti-inflammatory effects. (Lemaitre & King, 2022). Grass-fed animals have also been shown to have lower levels of the unhealthy trans and saturated fats.

Eating grass-fed meat isn’t just about the nutrition, it’s also a way of promoting humane treatment of animals. The tightly packed, confined conditions of industrial feedlots where hundreds are slaughtered together aren’t the best environment for animals to be living in.

Additionally, a study by British researchers showed that volunteers who consumed grass-fed red meat had increased levels of Omega-3 fatty acids and lower levels of pro-inflammatory Omega-6 fatty acids, compared to participants who ate conventionally fed beef.
