What are the things to look for when purchasing organic products?

When shopping for meat ensure it comes only from cows that are fed 100% organic feed. Ruminants are cattle that chew their cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach compartments: rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.

You should only purchase chicken that has been raised organically. It must not have ever been treated with antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

It is important to ensure that dairy products are from cows that were fed 100% organic feed. Like ruminants, dairy cattle have four stomachs. The fourth stomach compartment--the cow's udder--is where milk is produced.

When purchasing other types of livestock, check the label to see what percentage of the diet the animals were fed. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.

What You Should Know About Organic Foods

In the past decades, the consumption of organic products has grown dramatically worldwide. According to recent statistics, about 50% of the global population consumes at-least one organic product every day. This figure is on the rise and it is predicted to grow to 70%, 88%, and 90% in 2020.

There are many reasons consumers choose organic products. Some like the taste, others prefer them because they believe organic produce is healthier, while some think organic farming is more environmentally friendly. But, non-organic products can be a good choice because there are ethical concerns over the treatment and welfare of farm workers.

Organic foods are more expensive than those made from conventional food, though prices may vary by country and region. The price of organic food is affected by several factors. One factor is the availability land suitable for organic agricultural. The cost of inputs and labor required for organic cultivation is another factor. Transport costs, marketing costs and taxes are also important. The average European price for organic food is 10% lower than the regular price.
