Organic food is free from pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and hormones. They are also richer in nutrients like vitamins C, E, K, and omega-3 fat acids. These nutritious ingredients make organic foods better for our bodies, and for the planet.

Organic foods are produced with sustainable farming practices that promote soil quality and biological diversity. They are free from harmful chemicals, radiation, and sewage sludge.

Although organics are most commonly associated with produce, organics can also be found in dairy, meats, poultry, eggs and baked goods.

The USDA defines organic as crops that are grown according to federal standards. This means that farmers can't use non-organic methods of growing these foods. However, they can use approved organic pest control methods like crop rotation and covering cropping or animal feed made with organic materials.

Further, the farmer must be careful about the amount of pesticide and fertilizer he uses in the growing season. GMOs, artificial growthhormones, synthetic insecticides, and synthetic fertilizers cannot be used by farmers.

Fruits and vegetables labelled "100% organic" meet all the requirements above. But not all farms will label their products 100% organic. That would confuse consumers. Instead, they will label the product as "made from organic ingredients". "

How To

What happens to your body if you switch to organic products

Organic products can be grown without synthetic fertilizers, hormones or antibiotics. They are free-range and come from clean water sources. The term "organic" means they do not contain any chemicals or additives. This product is natural and does not contain any harmful substances.

The term "natural" refers how food is grown. It is usually used to describe foods that haven't been processed into their final form (e.g., fruits). Natural foods are often more fresh than others, because they haven’t been processed with heat, radiation or chemical preservations. Some people think natural does not necessarily mean healthy. Experts believe there is no difference in organic and conventional food. Both types can be tested for safety and quality. But organic produce has fewer pollutants and pesticide residues than conventionally grown produce.

Most grocery stores now carry organic meats and poultry. You can find organic meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood at your local market. Some companies sell only organic products; others have separate sections for them. USDA Certified Organic is a non-GMO Project Verified company.

You should avoid eating these items if you are pregnant or nursing. Unborn babies and infants can be affected by pesticides.
