What should I look out for when buying organic products?

USDA-certified organic labels are desirable. This seal signifies that the product meets specific USDA standards. Look out for the USDA Organic seal on boxes, cartons cans and jars.

When you shop for meat, ensure that it comes from cows who are fed organic feed. Cattle are ruminants. This means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have four stomach areas: rumen (reticulum), omasum (omasum), and abomasum. To be labeled '100% organic, all animal parts must be organically nourished.

Buy chicken from only organic chickens that have been fed 100% organic food and are not given antibiotics. Chickens can eat both animal and plant food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive tract composed of a crop, proventriculus, gizzard, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Just like ruminants, dairy cows also have four stomachs. The fourth stomach compartment is the udder.

To find out the percent of the feed the animals received when you purchase other types livestock, be sure to read the labels. For example, pork may be marked "95% organic" to indicate that 95 percent of the pork's feed is organic.


Which organic vegetables are the best?

Organic vegetables are the highest quality and healthiest food source. They are considered to be the healthiest foods on earth.

Here are my tips for finding cheap organic meats. I'll also tell you how much each pound costs. Learn how to get maximum value from the products you buy.

You don't need to spend a lot of money to eat healthily. Sometimes you need to be creative in order to save money and still eat healthy. Here are my suggestions for ways to cut food costs while still enjoying the benefits of organic meat.

  1. Wholesale clubs - Sams Club and Costco are great places for bulk food like chicken breasts or pork chops. You may be able to get large quantities of meat for as low as 50 pounds if your home is near one of these stores. This way you won't end up with any leftover meat. If you buy it in bulk you can freeze it so it lasts more.
  2. You can shop online for meat at great prices. Amazon has Prime Pantry, a weekly sale that offers free shipping for orders over $35. They offer discounts on beef roasts, ground beef, lamb steaks, and pork loins. You can easily browse their website to see what is available at different times.
  3. Find a local farmer - Local farmers usually charge less than big box retailers because they do not pay considerable fees to stock their shelves. Local farmers also know exactly what their animals have eaten and drank so they can determine what's in their bodies.
  4. Look for lean cuts of meat. Fatty meats are generally more expensive to cook. You should always look for the best cuts. The most commonly used cuts include flank steak, tenderloin and top round steaks. These cuts are high in protein and low in fat.
  5. Try new recipes. Start cooking with ingredients that you have never used before. This is one of the easiest ways reduce your grocery costs. You may be surprised by how many delicious dishes you can come up with using fresh tomatoes, onions, garlic, olive oil, and spices.
