Frequently Asked Questions
What is organic meat?
Organic meat is organic food that has been grown naturally without the use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers or hormones. This also means that animals weren't given any genetically modified feed. This makes it safe for human consumption because there aren't any harmful chemicals in the meat.
Organic meats are good for the environment. Eating organic foods helps reduce pollution in the environment, such as rivers and lakes. Organic farmers are less likely to use toxic chemicals to kill birds or insects. This helps protect wildlife.
It is best to buy organic meats locally as much as possible. Local buying helps to keep money in the community, rather than moving out of state. Local businesses often pass down savings to customers when they shop locally. In addition, buying local keeps jobs right here in America instead of sending them overseas.
What are organic food products?
Organic produce is produced without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. No growth hormones are used. Animal testing is also not done. These crops can grow naturally so that farmers don't have to use pesticides or weed control.
Organic farming methods also help to preserve soil quality, reduce erosion, and conserve water resources. In addition, organics are better for our health because they contain more nutrients than conventional food. Organic products are more nutritious than conventionally grown foods and have lower calories and fiber.
What are the benefits of organic products for skin?
Organic skincare products don't contain any synthetic chemicals such as parabens or phthalates.
Organic skincare products are also free of artificial colours, fragrances, preservatives, emulsifiers, GMOs, petrochemicals, animal testing (except cosmetics tested on animals), pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals, and other contaminants.
They also help to preserve healthy skin and prevent premature aging.
These are some standard terms you might come across when shopping for organic items:
- Paraben Free – These chemicals are used to preserve certain cosmetic products, but can cause serious health problems if taken in large amounts.
- Fragrance-Free means that the product doesn't contain any essential oils or fragrances.
- Cruelty Free - No animals were injured during the manufacturing process.
- Natural Ingredients - the ingredient is naturally derived from the plant or animal.
- Vegan/Vegetarian: The ingredients can be either vegetarian or vegan.
- Gluten-Free is a label that indicates that no gluten was added to the product.
- Non-Toxic – The product is free of toxins, carcinogens and other dangerous compounds that can harm your health.
- Biodegradable: The product will be discarded as harmless components.
- Pesticide Free – There were no pesticides used during the harvesting or growing process.
- GMO-Free: This means that no product ingredient contains genetically engineered organisms.
- Certified Organic is a certification that the ingredients of the recipe were grown using sustainable methods.

How To
Organic foods: Are they safer and more nutritious?
Organic foods are produced without the use of chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. They are grown under natural conditions, without artificial inputs like pesticides, herbicides hormones, antibiotics, genetic engineering, and fungicides. Cover crops, crop rotation, crop rotation, composting animal manure as well as recycling wastewater are all organic farming practices.
In 2002, the USDA National Organic Program (NOP), was established to regulate the sale, purchase, labelling, production, and distribution of organic products in the United States. NOP regulations ensure organic agricultural products conform to the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The NOP regulations also require that organic products are free of prohibited substances such as pesticide residues and genetically modified organisms.
Two types of certification programs are available in the United States for producers who wish to have their products labeled organic. One is for farmers and ranchers; one is for manufacturers. Both programs require that operations are audited annually to verify compliance with the strict standards. These services are offered by several certifying agencies, including CCOF Certified Organic Farmers & Ranchers and Quality Assurance International. The three organizations all provide verification by third parties that farms have followed strict guidelines for environmental stewardship as well as labour practices and the care of livestock.
According to the USDA's Economic Research Service, organic agriculture accounted for $4.7 billion in sales in 2013. The retail spending on organic products accounted for nearly $1.5 billion in 2013, a 23 percent increase over 2009. Groceries sales increased by 12 per cent during this time. Spending directly on organic produce grew by 29 percent while that on meat, poultry, eggs and seafood only grew by 1 percent.
Although organic food can be more expensive than regular food, many consumers feel that its quality is well worth the additional cost. Consumer Reports' 2015 survey found that 88% of respondents would spend more on organic food if it had higher nutritional values. Health Affairs published another study that found organic food eaters are less likely than those who consume conventional foods to have health problems such diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Although there is no evidence eating organic foods prevents or treats any diseases, some studies suggest that consuming them might improve overall health by reducing exposure to specific contaminants and pesticides. One example is the conclusion reached by a review of 31 studies, published in 2010, that organically reared beef was significantly less toxic than conventionally-raised beef. Similar results were also reached by a separate analysis of 11 2012 studies.
According to a 2014 report by the Environmental Working Group, the incidence of foodborne disease caused by E.coli, salmonella or listeria monocytogenes, E. coli and E. coli O157H7 was lower when organic chicken, non-organic pork, beef, lamb and milk were compared. The Environmental Working Group also found that E.coli O157 has been associated with fewer human illnesses in children and adults since 2006, when USDA began requiring stricter organic standards for animal production.
