Frequently Asked Questions

How do you know if your food is organic?

Fresh ingredients are essential for any chef. Because we feel better when we eat well.

This is true for food as well. Organics are traceable back to the source and provenance of their products. We also know that it wasn't treated with harmful chemicals.

Organic foods are made without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, hormones, steroids, antibiotics, or genetically altered organisms (GMO). These substances are forbidden for organic farmers.

But that doesn't mean there isn't an art to growing organic crops. You have many options to safely grow them.

Sustainable agriculture is sometimes called organic farming. This means that while it uses fewer resources than conventional methods, it provides the necessary nutrients to sustain life.

Organic farming practices include crop rotation, composting manure, cover cropping, and intercropping. These techniques can prevent soil erosion, improve water quality, and help reduce the risk of it happening again.

They also reduce chemical pollution of waterways. Since most of us live in urban areas, we can find local farms that raise organic produce.

Two types of certification programs are available for organic products. One is certified under the USDA National Organic Program. The other is certified independently by certifying authorities. Both require strict adherence of organic standards.

USDA seals or O Seals can be applied to organic products. This symbol indicates that the product meets federal requirements.

Why should I go organic?

The health risks of conventional agriculture include asthma, allergies and diabetes. Healthy choices must be made when purchasing food.

Here are some tips from the Environmental Working Group (EWG).

Make sure you read through all the ingredients. If an ingredient is not listed, it can be added during processing.

You should choose fresh meats rather than frozen or canned. Foods that are frozen or canned often have less nutritionally-rich ingredients, such as high fructosecorn syrup.

Is organic food healthy?

There are two types of foods; those we grow ourselves and those we buy from someone else. While there are exceptions, the general answer is yes to both. Organic food is healthier since it doesn't include any harmful chemicals.

The USDA regulates organic agriculture practices. This means that farmers must adhere to strict guidelines to make sure organic produce is safe to consume. There are over 30,000,000 acres of US agricultural land that has been certified organic.

Organic food is often more affordable than conventional food. Customers pay less for the same amount in calories, protein and nutrients. Organic farms don't have the expense of expensive chemical inputs, such as insecticides and/or fungicides. They can charge lower prices.

According to the Environmental Working Group organic food is 10 percent cheaper per pound than conventionally manufactured food. Organic food is an option if you want to improve your health and the health of your family.

How To

What happens to the body when you switch over to organic products

Organic products are grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics, or genetic manipulation. They are free-range and come from clean water sources. The term "organic", which means they don't contain additives or chemicals, refers to their non-containing any. This product was made from natural materials and is free of harmful substances.

The term "natural", refers only to how food was grown. This term is often used to refer to foods that are not processed into final forms (such as fruits). Natural foods are often more fresh than others, because they haven’t been processed with heat, radiation or chemical preservations. Natural doesn't necessarily have to be healthy, however. Many experts say there isn't much difference between conventional and organic foods. Both types of food are tested for safety, quality, and purity.
