People seek out foods and vitamin supplements that claim to boost immunity. However, a well-balanced diet is the best way to naturally strengthen your immune system.
Organic foods are rich in antioxidants, which can help your body fight off free radical damage and ageing. Organic foods also contain fewer pesticides, which may reduce your risk of cancer.
1. Indian Gooseberry
Indian gooseberry (Phyllanthus emblica or Emblica officinalis), commonly known as amla, is the fruit of a small deciduous tree native to India and Southeast Asia. It is low in calories and provides high amounts of fiber, vitamin C and several other select vitamins and minerals.
Its high content of vitamin C helps promote natural immune system function. It also acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting against free radical damage.
Amla has a diuretic, laxative and liver cleansing action, stimulating the secretion of gastric juices and aiding in efficient digestion. It is also considered to be antipyretic, antiinflammatory and hepatoprotective.
A study involving 68 people with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) showed that those who took 1,000 mg of amla fruit tablets daily experienced significantly reduced symptoms compared to those who took a placebo (2).
2. Turmeric or Haldi
The turmeric trend isn’t new to the Indian diet but has recently become a global sensation thanks to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral properties. This yellow spice also purifies the blood and improves complexion.
It also acts as a natural pain reliever and can be consumed in the form of tea or added to a smoothie. It is also a powerful antioxidant that can help slow down the ageing process of the body.
Consuming turmeric root or haldi can be more effective than its powdered form as it contains more curcumin. It is also a cholagogue that stimulates the production and release of bile in the liver, which helps with digestion.
It also enhances lymphocyte function and induces apoptosis in tumor cells. You can make a simple but delicious haldi drink at home by boiling turmeric root with water, adding a teaspoon of ghee and drinking it first thing in the morning. It helps improve immunity, reduce cold and cough, and cures dry throat.
3. Garlic
Garlic has been found to contain high amounts of riboflavin, vitamin C, and a number of cancer-fighting antioxidants. It also contains the sulphur-containing compound allicin. Allicin can activate a unique type of white blood cell called a dendritic cell (DC), which is important in stimulating the body's immune response to infections. One study comparing the immune responses of people who consumed aged garlic extract with those in a control group showed that those taking the garlic supplement experienced significantly fewer colds and flu.
The immune system is a complex and delicate balance of cells that must be strong enough to fight infection, but not so strong that it overreacts. While supplements and herbs may help boost the immune system, the best way to keep it healthy is through a diet of nutrient-rich whole foods, including vegetables, fruits, lean proteins and whole grains. Regular exercise and stress reduction strategies also contribute to a well-functioning immune system.
4. Oranges
The orange fruit is packed with a number of nutrients that can help boost the immune system. They are rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants. They also contain D-limonene, an anticancer compound, hesperidin, and folate. They are a good source of vitamin A and potassium. They also provide dietary fiber, choline, and calcium.
The vitamin C in oranges is critical for the function of immune cells like natural killer cells and helps fight off oxidative stress that can lead to disease. It is also important for the process of apoptosis, in which old or damaged cells are removed and replaced with healthy ones.
Try to consume a few organic, locally grown oranges or juice them daily. If you choose to drink orange juice, look for a brand that is organic, fair-trade, and Rainforest Alliance certified. This will help you avoid the negative social and environmental impacts of large-scale commercial orange farming.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are organic products for beauty?
Organic Beauty Products contain natural ingredients without artificial chemicals, such as parabens and phenoxyethanol. These ingredients are present in all conventional beauty products including shampoos and cosmetics.
Organic beauty products are not tested on animals and contain no genetically modified organisms.
The USDA defines organic as "a system that fosters the cycling of resources." It has been used for many decades to describe food products grown without pesticides.
Because of the damaging effects of chemical substances on our health, there has been an increase in demand for eco friendly beauty products.
These include skin irritation, hormone imbalance, premature ageing, and cancer.
Organic beauty companies believe in creating safe and healthy products while protecting the planet.
Is organic meat more nutritious?
If you have been paying attention for long enough, you will probably know the answer. This is the crux of it: organic food has been growing in popularity while conventional food has fallen out of favor.
The reason why organic foods continue to rise in popularity is that they are healthier for us. Organic products are not only safer for our health but also reduce pollution and waste.
But there are two sides to this coin. Organic produce takes longer to grow and requires more resources to do so. Organic food is generally more expensive than nonorganic.
Organic meats can be more expensive that those from conventionally raised animals. There are however ways to lower these costs without sacrificing the quality of organic meats.
Buy local to save money. Locally grown fruits and veggies help to lower prices because farmers get incentives to grow good crops.
Deals are another way to cut costs. Many organic products can be purchased at a discount.
You can also save money by eating less meat. Because of the amount of feed required to raise livestock, meat production can become expensive.
There are many reasons organic foods are better for our bodies and the environment, but we need to be mindful of the cost.
Is organic food healthy?
There are two types: foods that we grow and those that we purchase from others. There are exceptions to these categories, but most people will answer your question yes. Organic food is healthier since it doesn't include any harmful chemicals.
Organic food can be found in supermarkets throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Most grocery stores now carry organic food, making it easier for consumers to choose organic products.
Organic food is also better tasting and more nutritious because it contains higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Organics are also grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, so they don't pollute our soils and water supplies.
The USDA regulates organic farming practices. They require farmers to follow strict guidelines so that organic produce can be eaten safely. There are more than 30 million acres of US farmland that have been certified organic.
Organic food can often be cheaper than conventional food. Customers pay less for the same amount in calories, protein and nutrients. Organic farms are able to charge lower prices for their crops because they don't have to purchase expensive chemical inputs like insecticides and fungicides.
According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), organic food actually costs 10% less per pound. Switching to organic food is a smart move if you care about your health and that of your family.
Organic food is a popular choice to traditional American cuisines. Many people believe that organic food can only be found in specialty markets or gourmet restaurants. This is false. Organic food is easily available in all regular grocery stores in the United States.
In recent years, organic food sales have been on the rise. The US market value of organic foods was $43Billion in 2012, up from $21B in 2007.
How do you determine if food has been grown organically?
Fresh ingredients are essential for any chef. We feel better when our food is good.
This holds true for our food. We can identify exactly where and how organic foods were grown when we purchase them. We also know that it didn't have any harmful chemicals.
Organic foods can be made without synthetic pesticides. These substances aren't permitted for organic farmers.
But that doesn't mean there isn't an art to growing organic crops. There are many safe ways to grow them.
Organic farming is often called sustainable agriculture. This is because organic farming uses less resources than conventional methods but provides enough nutrients for life to last.
Crop rotation, crop rotation, cover cropping and composting manure are all organic farming methods. These techniques prevent soil erosion while improving water quality.
They reduce the amount of chemical runoff that can enter waterways. Because most people live in urban areas, it is easy to find farms that grow organic produce.
There are two types certified programs for organic products. One is certified under the USDA National Organic Program. The other is certified independently by certifying authorities. Both require strict compliance with organic standards.
USDA seals, or O Seals, may be attached to certified organic products. These symbols indicate that the product meets federal requirements.
What are my top priorities when buying organic products
USDA-certified organic label are desirable. This certifies that the product has met certain standards set by USDA. Look out for the USDA Organic seal on boxes, cartons cans and jars.
When purchasing meat, ensure it is 100% organic. Cattle are ruminants, which means they chew the cud. Ruminant cattle have 4 stomach compartments: Rumen, reticulum and omasum. To be labeled '100% organic, all animal parts must be organically nourished.
Buy chicken from only organic chickens that have been fed 100% organic food and are not given antibiotics. Omnivore chickens eat both animals and plants. A digestive tract that is omnivorous includes a crop, proventriculus and gizzard. It also contains small intestines, large intestines, and anus.
Buy dairy products that are 100% organically produced. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach, or the udder is where you get milk.
You should always check the label before purchasing any other livestock. This will let you know what percentage of the diet was given to the animals. One example is pork that may be labeled '95% Organic'. This means that 95 percent came from organic sources.
Are organic foods better?
According to the Environmental Working Group's latest report on pesticide residues in foods, organic fruits and vegetables had nearly half the level of pesticides compared with non-organic versions. They found that organic apples contained eight times fewer pesticides than non-organic apples, while organic strawberries were four times cleaner than their conventional counterparts.
Another study suggests that organic food can reduce exposure to toxic metals such as lead and mercury. For example, one study showed that children who ate organic meat had 33 percent lower blood lead levels than those who didn't consume organic meats. A second study found that conventional fish should be avoided by pregnant women due to the high levels of mercury.
Overall, organic food does seem to be safer than its non-organic counterpart. Experts recommend that fresh produce and vegetables be used whenever possible to reduce your chances of developing cancer.

How To
How to afford Organic Meat even when on a Budget
This post will share some tips and tricks to help you buy organic meat without breaking the bank.
I will give you tips on where to find cheap organic meats and how much they cost per pound. Learn how to get maximum value from the products you buy.
For healthy eating, you don’t have to spend a lot. Sometimes, you have to use your creativity to save money while still eating well. Here's my list of ways to keep your food costs down while enjoying organic meat's benefits.
- Shop at wholesale clubs - Sams Club or Costco are great places to buy bulk foods such as chicken breasts and pork chops. You can often find deals on large quantities (up to 50 pounds) if you live close to one of these stores. You won't have to waste meat. It's also possible to freeze meat purchased in bulk so that it lasts longer.
- Shopping online is easy - There are tons of websites that sell meat at reduced prices. For example, Amazon has a weekly deal called Prime Pantry, which includes free shipping on orders over $35. They offer discounts for beef roasts and ground beef as well as lamb steaks, lamb steaks, pork loins, and other items. It's easy to browse their website and see what's available at different times.
- Look for a local farmer. They usually charge less than big-box retailers, as they don't have to pay large stocking fees. They know exactly what the animals ate and drank to ensure they are fully informed about what is in their bodies.
- You should look for the leanest cuts of meat. Lean meat is typically cheaper to cook than fatty. The leanest cuts are therefore preferred. The most commonly used cuts include flank steak, tenderloin and top round steaks. These cuts have high protein and low fat.
- Try new recipes. It's possible to reduce grocery expenses by cooking new recipes using ingredients you've never tried before. It's possible to create delicious meals with fresh tomatoes, onions and garlic using olive oil, spices, and garlic.
- Remaining meat and poultry can be used for sandwiches, salads or soups. It's easy to make quick lunches and dinners with leftover meat.
There you have it! These are my top tips for how to get organic meat on a tight budget. Are there any other tips you can share? Do you have any suggestions for me on where to find cheap meat?
