Are organic foods healthier?

According to the Environmental Working Group's recent report on pesticide residues within foods, organic fruits & vegetables contained nearly half of the pesticides that non-organic varieties. Organic foods are produced with sustainable farming practices that promote soil quality and biological diversity. They are free of toxic chemicals, irradiation and sewage effluent.

Many organic products are not associated with produce. They include dairy and meat, poultry, eggs baked goods, pet food, household cleaning supplies, and personal care products.

According to the USDA, "organic" means that crops are raised in compliance with federal standards. Farmers cannot use conventional (non-organic) methods to grow these foods. However, they can use approved organic pest control methods like crop rotation and covering cropping or animal feed made with organic materials.

Further, the farmer must be careful about the amount of pesticide and fertilizer he uses in the growing season. GMOs, synthetic insecicides, artificial growth hormones or synthetic fertilizers can't be used by farmers.

Produces labelled as 100% organic meet all requirements. However, some farms won't claim that their products are 100% organic. This would confuse the consumers. They will instead label their product "made with organic ingredients." "

I'll give you some tips about where to find organic meats at a low price and how much it costs per pound. This will teach you how to get the most out of your purchase.

To eat well, you don't have to spend a lot. Sometimes it takes creativity to save money and eat well. Here's my list of ways to keep your food costs down while enjoying organic meat's benefits.

  1. Shop at wholesale clubs - Sams Club or Costco are great places to buy bulk foods such as chicken breasts and pork chops. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. You won't have to waste meat. If you buy it in bulk you can freeze it so it lasts more.
  2. You can shop online for meat at great prices. Amazon offers Prime Pantry weekly deals, including free shipping for orders above $35 They offer discounts for beef roasts and ground beef as well as lamb steaks, lamb steaks, pork loins, and other items. You can easily browse their website to see what is available at different times.
  3. Look for a local farmer. They usually charge less than big-box retailers, as they don't have to pay large stocking fees. They know exactly what the animals ate and drank to ensure they are fully informed about what is in their bodies.
  4. Look for meat cuts that are leanest - Lean meat is generally cheaper to cook than fatty meat. The leanest cuts are therefore preferred. The most popular are sirloin or flank steak, tenderloin roasts, top round steak, and top roast steak. These cuts have high protein and low fat.
