Frequently Asked Questions
What is organic food?
Organic produce can be grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. There are no growth hormones used and animal testing is not performed. These crops can naturally grow, so no chemicals are used by farmers to combat pests or weeds.
Organic farming practices preserve soil quality and help conserve water resources. Organics contain more nutrients than regular food and are therefore better for our overall health. Organic products tend to be higher in fiber and lower fat than conventionally produced foods.
Is organic food better for us?
According to the Environmental Working Group’s latest report on pesticide residues, organic fruits/vegetables had nearly half as many pesticides than non-organic. Organic apples had eight times less pesticides than nonorganic apples. However, organic strawberries had four times the amount of pesticides as their conventional counterparts.
Some studies also suggest that eating organic food helps reduce your exposure to toxic metals, such as mercury and lead. One study revealed that children who ate organic meat had 33 per cent lower blood lead levels than their counterparts who didn't eat organic meats. A second study found that conventional fish should be avoided by pregnant women due to the high levels of mercury.
Overall, organic food does seem to be safer than its non-organic counterpart. Experts recommend fresh vegetables and fruits whenever possible in order to reduce the risk of getting cancer.
Why is organic produce important?
It is essential for our health to eat organic produce. It is the best option to ensure that we eat nutritious food. It's healthier for us as well as more environmentally-friendly because it doesn’t rely on pesticides, fertilizers, or other chemicals.
Organic farming uses natural methods of cultivating crops that are free from harmful chemicals. This means fewer environmental pollutants, making it safer for humans and animals. By choosing organic food, you are protecting the planet as well as yourself.
Organic food has many benefits that go beyond health. We all know how bad processed food can make us feel. However, organic fruits & vegetables aren’t treated with chemical sprays. It means that organic fruits, vegetables and other foods are fresher tasting, more vibrant and last longer.
Because of this, organic foods are so important. Organic food is not only healthier for you but also for the whole world.
What are some of the most popular organic products in your country?
Today, organic food is the fastest growing industry. There is still much to be done, even though we have come so far from our roots.
Organic products are the future. Organic products are safer and better for the environment. They also make it more affordable for consumers.
But they tend to be more expensive. That's why we created the Organic Food Index. We wanted to find out which foods are most popular with shoppers today, and whether these trends are changing.
The results showed that organic food is increasing in popularity. Between 2011-2012, nearly half of Americans shopped for organic foods.
The USDA reported that organic production rose by 10% in the last year. 9% now comes from organic foods in the United States.
While organic food is certainly gaining ground, it seems that it is still an expensive choice for consumers. According to the Organic Trade Association, (OTA), organic food retail prices are nearly twice as expensive than conventional options.
Despite this, organic food is growing at a faster rate than any other food segment. You can see that organic food has been steadily increasing since 2009.
In fact, according to OTA, the volume of organic products sold in supermarkets grew by 14% between 2010 and 2011.
This is because consumers are looking for healthier foods. Organic food sales have been increasing in all age groups.
The younger generation is however leading the charge for organic food. Millennials are twice likely to choose organic food than the baby boomers. 25 percent of organic food purchases are made by young adults younger than 35.

How To
5 Reasons to Buy Organic Products
Organic foods are grown without pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. They contain no genetically modified or irradiated food ingredients. Their production methods do not involve sewage sludge or industrial solvents. During the course of its growth cycle, the natural environment of the food is protected from contamination. It does not contain artificial preservatives or additives. No hormones or antibiotics are used. They are also made in conditions that maintain their nutritional value and freshness for longer times.
- Health benefits. Organic produce contains fewer chemicals than nonorganic produce. This makes it less likely to cause allergies or sensitivities. It also means that you consume less toxic chemicals and carcinogens.
- Eco-friendliness. Produce grown without pesticides and synthetic fertilizer requires very little water. Organic farms are often located far from areas with high levels of pollution because it takes so much energy for conventional agriculture to grow. That helps reduce air pollution.
- Sustainability. Organic farming relies on soil fertility rather than chemical fertilizers; this results in healthier soils with higher levels of organic matter. The rotation of crops and the letting of land fallow can improve soil health. When farm animals eat only grasses and grains raised without any added hormones or antibiotics, they develop strong immune systems.
- Taste. The taste of conventional fruits and veggies is often bland. This is because they are picked at the peak of ripeness. They then get shipped long distances to their destination. Organic produce is sweeter and richer because it was harvested at the peak of its ripeness.
- Nutrition. GMOs and BPA can be found in many processed foods. You can avoid them by sticking with whole foods such meat, fish, eggs, seafood, seeds and beans, as well as fruits, veggies, herbs, and vegetables.
