The results show that organic food is becoming increasingly popular. Between 2011 and 2012, the number of Americans who shop for organic food increased by almost 50%.
The USDA reports that organic production increased 10% last year. Organic food now makes up 9% U.S. agriculture output.

What are some things I should look out for when purchasing organic goods?
USDA-certified organic labels are recommended. This guarantees that the product meets certain USDA standards. Look out for the USDA Organic seal on boxes, cartons cans and jars.
When you shop for meat, ensure that it comes from cows who are fed organic feed. Cattle are ruminants. They eat the whole animal. Ruminant cattle have four stomach areas: rumen (reticulum), omasum (omasum), and abomasum. If a cow is to be labeled organically, all parts must be organically fed.
You should only purchase chicken that has been raised organically. It must not have ever been treated with antibiotics. Chickens are omnivores. This means they can eat both plant and animal food. Omnivorous chickens have a digestive system that includes a crop (proventriculus), gizzard and small intestine.
You should ensure you only buy dairy products made from milk that has been produced by cows who have been fed 100% organically grown food. Like ruminants and dairy cows, they have four stomach compartments. The fourth stomach compartment, the udder, is where milk comes from.
When purchasing other types of livestock, check the label to see what percentage of the diet the animals were fed. One example is pork that may be labeled '95% Organic'. This means that 95 percent came from organic sources.
How do I know if my produce is organic?

In this post, I'll share tips and tricks on buying organic meat without breaking your bank account.
I will give you tips on where to find cheap organic meats and how much they cost per pound. You will be able to make the most of what you have purchased.
To eat well, you don't have to spend a lot. Sometimes, you have to use your creativity to save money while still eating well. Here are my top tips for keeping food costs down and still enjoying the many benefits of organic meat.
- Buy bulk food at wholesale clubs. Sams Club and Costco both offer great options for buying bulk foods like pork chops and chicken breasts. These stores often offer discounts on large quantities of meat, up to 50 pounds, if you are lucky enough to be near one. You won't have to waste meat. And if you buy it in bulk, you can freeze it, so it lasts longer.
- Online shopping is a great way to find meat at a discounted price. For example, Amazon has a weekly deal called Prime Pantry, which includes free shipping on orders over $35. There are discounts on roasts, ground beef and lamb steaks as well as pork loins. It's easy to browse their website and see what's available at different times.
- Look for a local farmer. They usually charge less than big-box retailers, as they don't have to pay large stocking fees. Plus, they know exactly what their animals ate and drank, so they know exactly what's inside their bodies.
- Look for meat cuts that are leanest - Lean meat is generally cheaper to cook than fatty meat. So, look for the leanest cuts. The most commonly used cuts include flank steak, tenderloin and top round steaks. These cuts are high in protein and low in fat.
