We are about to enter the Fall entertaining season. If you're going to a party at someone else's house, we recommend that you make a few gifts to give to them as a gift.

Three handmade, herb-infused gifts that you can give to your hostess:

  1. Homemade Bitters
  2. Teas that are hand-blended
  3. Mixers with Flavors

Handmade Bitters

This recipe is for those who've been waiting. I usually say in my mocktail show that I will share the recipe for my blog but never do. You will need to plan in advance if you want to give this as a present, since it takes between 6 and 8 weeks for the bitters to properly cure. However, one batch can yield many jars that you can use to gift or keep yourself.

Bitters add a unique tangy flavor to cocktails and they are perfect for drinks made with gin or whisky. Bitters can also be used as a digestive aid. These two recipes with citrus are rich in antioxidants and help to keep blood sugar levels level.

Citrus bitters

You may not be able to live without the bright flavor that these add to your Ginger Ale, Seltzer or Sparkling Water.

  • 1 750 ml bottle plain (unflavored), vodka
  • 4 Oranges, zest from the entire orange
  • 2 Lemons, zest from the entire lemon
  • 1 Tbls fennel seeds
  • 1 3-inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1/2 tsp coriander seed

Shake the mason jar every day for four to eight weeks.

After infusing, strain the bitters with a fine-mesh strainer. Transfer the liquid into 4-ounce amber dropper bottles for storage at room temperatures. Recipe makes 6 4-ounce jars. These jars never go bad!

HOW TO USE

  • Bitters are a great addition to tall glasses of ginger ale. Just a few drops make for a refreshing drink.
  • Use them instead of extracts when baking.
  • Throw them in the popcorn.
  • Add them to lemonade, juice or a smoothie.
  • Honey and maple syrup can be combined.
  • Add to fruit poaching liquid.
Tea Time Tippler Cocktail

  • 2 oz. Green or herbal tea
  • 1 oz Lavender Simple Syrup
  • 1 oz Ginger Beer
  • 1/2 oz Lemon Juice
  • Bitters 2 dashes

Directions:

Shake ingredients together in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish the cocktail with a grapefruit disc. Recipe yields 1 cocktail.

Hand Blended Teas

It is easy and quick to create a dry herb blend. Place the mix in a canning container with a decorative label and instructions, and add a tea infuser. You have an ideal little gift. Select a relaxing blend that will help your host relax after a stressful evening of entertaining. This recipe contains cooling and restoring mint along with immune boosters lemongrass and rosehips.

Winter Serendipitea Tea

  • 1 teaspoon dried Spearmint
  • 1 teaspoon of peppermint
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed rosehips
  • 1 teaspoon dried lemongrass
  • Half a teaspoon of orange peel
  • 1/2 teaspoon Raspberry Leaf
  • Dash of cinnamon

Mix all ingredients well. Store in a container with a tight-fitting lid.

To use, bring cool water to the boil. Pour 1 cup boiling water on 1 tsp tea blend and let steep for 3 to 5 minutes.

Allow tea to steep for up to 10 mins, and then let it cool down to room temperature. Add ice, and squeeze a lemon if you like.

Flavor Infused Mixers

Last but not least, I recommend making a flavored gin or alcohol for your guests. Faux Gin recipes are available here. You can also create a cocktail with our easy cocktail kits. Try Apple Cinnamon Bourbon, Faux Gin or an Old-Fashioned Cocktail.

Make your own Old-Fashioned --

  • Two ounces of bourbon whiskey or rye whisky
  • Simple syrup, 1/4 ounce
  • 2 dashes bitters
  • Orange slice and maraschino cherries to garnish
Add all ingredients to a lowball glass. Garnish with ice, and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it okay to use dried herbs instead of fresh ones?

It is best to pick up fresh herbs whenever possible when using herbs.

Although dried herbs are convenient, they don’t provide the same benefits as fresh herbs.

Fresh herbs contain essential oils that give your food a unique flavor. These oils help preserve the nutrients within the herb.

Dried herbs lose all their flavor after drying, so they cannot replace fresh herbs.

You should only use dried herbs if you absolutely must. Otherwise, you should get your fresh herbs from the market.

What is the difference between basil and oregano?

Both of these herbs belong to the Lamiaceae family. They share similar flavors, but the differences are obvious.

Oregano is more pungent than basil. It also adds an extra layer of flavor to foods.

Basil leaves are smaller than oregano leaves. They are also softer and less aromatic.

The two herbs are often used interchangeably. Although they are quite similar, each has its distinctive qualities.

What herb heals all wounds?

The answer to this question varies depending on the type and severity of the wound.

The herb comfrey (also known as knitbone) has long been used for its healing properties, particularly for skin injuries such as cuts and bruises.

Studies suggest that comfrey contains allantoin, which helps speed up healing. Other herbs commonly used for healing wounds include calendula, plantain, and yarrow. These herbs help to reduce inflammation, stop bleeding and speed up the skin's healing process.

In addition to herbs, honey has also been found to have powerful antimicrobial properties that can help prevent wound infection.

Herbs for wound care is an age-old practice that continues to be used today. However, herbs should not replace medical treatment, and always consult your doctor before using herbs for healing. With the right herbs, you can give your body the support it needs to heal naturally.

What are the disadvantages of using herbs?

Herbs are a great way to keep your body healthy because they contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, amino acids, phytonutrients, polyphenols, flavonoids, terpenes, essential oils, carotenoids, sterols, and sterolins. Some even contain cannabinoids.

But there are also lots of side effects associated with herbal remedies. For example, taking too much herb could cause liver damage or even death. Herbal supplements may interact with prescription drugs, which means that they might affect how well the drug works.

Some herbs can interfere with blood clotting, while others may increase bleeding when taken with anticoagulants (blood thinners).

There are also safety concerns for pregnant women and children.

The bottom line is that herbs aren't safe for everyone. If you're considering trying them out, do your homework. Look up each product's side effects and warnings and read reviews online.

How To

How to use herbs safely?

Many people think that herbs should only be used under medical supervision because they believe that some herbs are poisonous. However, this is not true.

Many herbs have long histories of safe use. For example, garlic has been used for thousands of years to fight infections. It's also been shown to lower cholesterol levels and reduce high blood pressure.

However, if you're pregnant or nursing, avoid taking certain herbs. You should also avoid them if you suffer from allergies or sensitivities to herbs.

You can do several things to ensure you get the best results from your herbs and supplements. First, always read labels before consuming anything containing herbs or spices. Second, take the lowest dose recommended on the label. Third, don't use more than one supplement at any given time. Fourth, talk to your doctor about how to combine specific herbs and supplements. Finally, keep track of your consumption to know whether you need to adjust your dosage.
