Since 2001, we have been creating a special blend of spices for the winter and fall season. It is a blend of cinnamon, cloves nutmeg ginger and my secret ingredient, lemon peel. This makes it ideal for baking, mixing drinks and pies. In the past, I've called it by many names (Spicy Dessert blend, Cinnful Dessert blend, and Pumpkin Spice blended). We use Pumpkin Spice Blend now because people tend to recognize it. This blend is a good substitute for Apple Pie Spice and Pumpkin Pie Spice. It has less bitterness.


This blend's versatility is what I find most exciting. It can be used to make cinnamon bread, in latte or baking.

We created a whole range of baking products with this flavor as the base. We offer scones and muffins, pancake mixes, oatmeal cookies, instant lattes, and more. Here are some great recipes that you can make with our Pumpkin spice blend. You can use ground cinnamon instead of the Backyard Patch Pumpkin Spice blend until it arrives. The flavor will not be as good, but you'll still get a great result.

Perfect Cinnamon Toasted

  • 1/8 cup of sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. BackyardPatch Herb Blend Pumpkin Spice

Mix together and sprinkle over rice pudding, muffins that have not been baked, or buttered toast.



Outdoor Party Punch

  • 1/2 Gallon Apple Cider
  • 1/2 gallon of cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 Tbls. Backyard Patch Herb Blend with Pumpkin Spice
  • 1 Lemon, sliced
  • 1 lime, cut into slices
  • 1 cup raisins (optional)

Add the spice mixture and sugar into the cider and juice. Stir occasionally while simmering for 20 minutes. Simmer for 30 minutes, adding fruit slices or raisins (if using). Strain. Serve in mugs steaming hot. Add cinnamon sticks to the mix for a fun twist.

SOFT SPICE BARES

  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup plus 2 Tbls. Sugar, divided
  • 1/4 cup of molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. Backyard Patch Herb Spice Blend
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt

Combine butter, molasses, and 1 cup of sugar in a large mixing bowl. Beat in egg until smooth. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, BYP Pumpkin Spice blend, and salt. Mixture of molasses and flour is stirred together. Spread mixture into a 15"x10", 1" deep baking pan. Sprinkle remaining sugar on top and bake for 375 degrees until lightly brown. Avoid overbaking. Cool on a wire rack. Yield: 2 1/2 dozen. bars.
