Indian Herbs For Homemade Tinctures and Extracts

Herbal tinctures are a popular and convenient way to harness the power of nature. They are made by macerating fresh or dried herbs in a liquid solvent, such as alcohol or vinegar, for several weeks to months.

Indian herbs are commonly used in making homemade tinctures and extracts. They can improve your overall health and wellbeing by supporting a healthy digestive system, fighting infections, improving heart health and helping with weight management.

What are they?

One of the most popular Indian herbs for making homemade tinctures and extracts is curry leaves. They are used extensively in South India and add a unique flavor to curries, chutneys, and gravies.

They are also commonly used in garam masalas and seasoning powders. They are often combined with ground ginger and pepper to enhance the overall flavor of dishes.

Once you’ve gathered the herb(s) you want to use, coarsely chop them and place them in an airtight jar. Then fill the jar to about 1/2 of the top with alcohol, leaving plenty of space for your herbs to expand.

Then, shake the jar every couple of days and make sure that the alcohol is fully covering your herbs. If they’re not completely submerged, top off with more of the same type of alcohol (this keeps your herbs from molding). You can then leave your tincture to steep for 8 weeks, shaking it occasionally. At the end of this time, strain your tincture and pour it into dropper bottles.

Fill a glass jar two-thirds to three-fourths full with fresh leaves and one-fourth of the way full with dried leaves, roots, or bark. Pour alcohol to cover the herbs completely.

Shake the jar vigorously every few days to mix and to ensure that all of the herbs are covered. Label the jar with the plant name, date, and the alcohol percentage.

For example, the chamomile herb helps relieve stress. This means that if you feel stressed out, you may benefit from taking chamomile tea. Chamomile tea has been shown to reduce anxiety and nervous tension.

In addition, chamomile tea has been proven effective in relieving insomnia.

Chamomile tea has many other benefits, including its ability to ease stomach aches and gas pains and even improve digestion.
