Herbal Teas - Nurturing Your Body and Soul!

A warm mug of herbal tea was grandma’s solution to almost any problem, from indigestion to the common cold. This comprehensive book includes recipes and a brewing guide for making tea blends to nourish the head, throat, gut and more.

Herbal teas (also called tisanes) are made with dried herbs, flowers, spices and fruits. They usually don’t contain caffeine and are a natural way to help combat oxidative stress and keep the body in balance.

Chamomile

Embrace the soothing and therapeutic qualities of this relaxing, caffeine-free brew. A member of the Asteraceae family (which includes chrysanthemums and sunflowers), it's a gentle herb with powerful benefits.

The antioxidant apigenin found in chamomile has been shown to bind receptors in the brain that promote drowsiness and reduce insomnia. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help ease symptoms of depression and anxiety.

A cup of chamomile tea can also be beneficial for the digestive system, soothing upset stomachs and relieving indigestion. It may even aid in the treatment of gas, constipation and gastrointestinal irritation, including ulcers.

It's best to drink chamomile herbal tea right before bedtime. This way, you can enjoy the steeping process and the aroma of the brew to signal your body that it's time to wind down. Plus, drinking a cup of chamomile tea will help you relax and fall asleep faster. *Be sure to consult with your doctor before starting any new herbs or drinks.

Hibiscus

Hibiscus tea (also known as roselle or agua de Jamaica) is a refreshing and delicious drink that can be enjoyed hot or cold. It is caffeine free and full of antioxidants. It also helps to keep cortisol levels low, which helps with fat storage and is a great natural energy booster.

Several studies have found that drinking hibiscus tea can help with blood pressure, heart health and lowering cholesterol. It contains a wealth of antioxidants, which can help fight against harmful free radicals in your body.

To make a simple cup of hibiscus tea, simply boil some water and pour over a tablespoon of dried hibiscus flowers or calyces. Let steep for a few minutes and strain. Add a bit of sugar or other sweetener to taste. You can also add herbs, lemon slices or muddled mixed berries to your hibiscus tea for additional flavour. You can store brewed hibiscus tea in the fridge for up to 4 days.

Linden

The dried flowers, leaves and bark of the Linden trees (Tilia genus) have been used since ancient times to treat colds, coughs, high blood pressure, and to help alleviate anxiety. Linden contains a natural mucilage component that soothes mucous membranes. Its demulcent properties add moisture to tissues while its astringent qualities tighten and tone them. It is also known to have antispasmodic and vasodilatory properties. Its antioxidant content includes flavonoids, like quercetin and tiliroside; volatile oils; and amino acids.

Linden flower tea is a relaxing nervine, calming overstimulated nerves and promoting a restful night’s sleep. It is also known as an antispasmodic, relieving cramping in the digestive tract and throughout the body, including menstrual cramps and migraines. Its sedative characteristics also make it useful in treating insomnia. Its gamma-aminobutyric acid activity mimics the activity of our body’s main sedative neurotransmitter, GABA.

Peppermint

Embrace the soothing and therapeutic qualities of Peppermint herbal teas in your life. This refreshing beverage is a great way to soothe sinuses, calm headaches and freshen breath. It also contains menthol which helps open up congested nasal passages to relieve symptoms of sinusitis.

The cooling, refreshing scent of a minty cup of tea can instantly brighten your day and improve your mood. Research suggests that the scent of peppermint stimulates parts of your brain associated with emotions and memories. The anti-inflammatory properties of this herbal infusion are a welcome addition to your diet as a natural way to reduce pain from indigestion, stomach ulcers and other gastrointestinal issues.

This herbal tea can also help to balance hormones in women with polycystic ovary syndrome. It is thought to decrease androgens and increase estrogen which can help reduce symptoms such as bloating, irregular periods, and hormonal acne. It may also help relieve irritable bowel syndrome. Enjoy a healthy, minty boost without all the added sugar and caffeine by brewing your own cup of this popular herb at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to eat raw garlic?

Raw garlic contains potent compounds that could cause stomach upset. Garlic should always be cooked before eating.

Garlic is one of the oldest known medicinal plants. It has been used since ancient times to treat various ailments.

Today, garlic is still commonly used for treating colds, coughs, and other respiratory infections. In addition, garlic can increase blood circulation, boost immunity, protect against cancer, lower cholesterol levels, prevent heart disease, and reduce stress.

Do not ingest large amounts of raw garlic to avoid possible health problems. It does not harm you if you consume small amounts regularly, however. This is especially true with young children who might accidentally swallow some.

What are healing flowers?

Healing flowers are plants that promote peace and tranquillity. They help us unwind after a stressful day and make us feel more relaxed.

They also help us connect to our inner selves and reconnect with nature.

These beautiful blooms are used for meditation, prayer, and contemplation.

We call hundreds of varieties of flowering plants ‘healing’ because they provide such a fantastic experience.

This list includes roses, lilies, irises, daffodils, peonies, tulips, hyacinths, and many more.

But there are two species that I find particularly special. These are the Geranium and Lilium.

Geraniums are very easy to grow and come in various colors. Liliums are also known as lily-of-the-valley, which means 'lily' and 'valley.' Both of these species are popular garden flowers.

Healing flowers are often found growing near water. They are said to bring peace and calmness to those who meditate with them.

In ancient times, people would light candles in flower petals to symbolize the sun. This way, they could honor the sun without needing to go outdoors.

Some say that when you look at these flowers, you may see angels dancing.

What is the difference between "regular" and smoked paprika powder?

Regular Paprika Powder (Piment d'Espelette) is an essential ingredient for our recipes. We use it for its intense flavor and color. It's also used as a spice and seasoning agent. Smoked Paprika Powder (Paprika Chorizo) adds a smoky taste and aroma to dishes. Both types of Paprika Powder come from Spain, where they grow the best peppers in the world.

Smoked Paprika Powder (Chorizo Paprika) is made from red peppers, which are dried slowly in special ovens. This gives them a rich flavor. They are then ground and mixed with salt, garlic, and spices.

Regular Paprika Powder (Espelette Paprika) is made by grinding green bell peppers without additives.

What herb is best for healing?

Herbs are a fantastic way to help heal our bodies. Herbal medicine has been used since ancient times and continues to grow today. There are thousands of herbs known to cure various ailments.

Some herbs are excellent for treating colds and flu, while others can treat anxiety, depression, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and more.

There are also herbal remedies for skin care, hair loss, weight loss, sexual health, energy, sleep, digestion, and much more.

The list goes on and on. But one herb stands above them all regarding its ability to heal. That herb is called aloe vera.

Aloe Vera is considered to be the world's most powerful healer. For centuries it has helped people heal themselves naturally without any side effects.

It's incredible how well aloe vera works. It's even better than prescription drugs and surgery.

In addition to its natural healing properties, aloe vera is highly versatile and can be used in almost any area of life, including food, beauty products, and household cleaning supplies.

You may not realize this, but aloe vera contains hundreds of active compounds, which include vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B3, B6, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, sulfur, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, chloride, fluoride, iodine, selenium and more.

These nutrients are essential for human body functions such as cell growth, metabolism, immune system support, healthy bones and teeth, healthy blood pressure levels, healthy eyesight, healthy cardiovascular systems, healthy digestive systems, healthy lungs, healthy nervous system, healthy reproductive organs, healthy skin, and healthy libido.

How To

What to look for in herbs?

Herbs contain natural compounds that may help treat various conditions. In addition, herbal remedies may provide relief when used along with conventional treatments.

Herbal remedies include teas, capsules, tablets, ointments, creams, lotions, oils, and topical applications. Some of these products are meant to be taken internally, while others are applied externally.

The most common uses of herbal remedies include relieving minor aches and pains, treating cold symptoms, reducing fever, controlling coughs and sore throats, easing digestion problems, soothing skin irritations, alleviating menstrual cramps, and providing general health benefits.

When buying herbs, look for the following:

  • Freshly picked plants. Avoid dried herbs unless they've been stored in a cool place. If possible, buy herbs directly from farmers' markets.
  • Pure extracts. These are made by extracting the active ingredients from herbs using alcohol or water. Look for 100% pure extractions.
  • Certified organic herbs. Organic herbs must meet strict standards set forth by the USDA.
  • Natural flavors. Many herbs have strong scents that can overwhelm other foods. Adding flavorings such as vanilla, almond, or orange helps mask their smell.
  • Potency. The amount of active ingredient per unit weight varies depending on the type of herb.
  • Packaging. When purchasing herbs, check the packaging to ensure that it's clean and free of chemicals.
